I have the money for the Raptor…but 20 grand is a lot when I don’t really need either. BTW I also considered another super duty for resale alone. Didn’t think a heavily discounted Tremor would be much less attractive financially than a MSRP 24 Raptor
You clearly don't. You're in a used 120k 2016 that you ended up in because you couldn't afford the payments on your last truck.

I paid cash for the 100k 2022 F450 Platinum…kept it 6 months to fulfill the x plan rules and dumped it for something cheaper while the car market tumbled. If the market tumbled 20% then the loss on this temporary beater was a lot less than the loss on a 100k driveway ornament.

I had planned on paying cash for this next one also. Also have a 2023 Yukon XL Denali in the garage that’s also paid for…Tool bag.

Ive found buying new and keeping short term and worrying about depreciation is pointless.. The tremor value is not going to do well in 2-3 years. Why not look into buying a low mileage 21-22 Raptor where the initial depreciation hit was already taken by the first owner. And there really isn’t much difference between a 21 to 23 and the lightly refreshed 24.

Good point. I just worry about the dope that owned before me and how they treated it. I’ll prob just get this 24 Raptor or a 23 at 5ish off if I can. At the rate these idiots are devaluing our money this Raptor will seem like a bargain in a few years

Sometimes people misinterpret intentionally thrifty behavior. In 2020 I had a 2020 BMW X7, 2019 Z06, 2020 Traverse (work car), 1997 Daihatsu Kei truck and a 2010 F-150 SCREW with 155K miles on it. Could I afford a new truck? Yup. Just didn’t make sense. The resolution of those vehicles was SUPER low cost of ownership:

2020 BMW X7 - was bought CPO for $63K. Dealer offered us $67K 2.5 years and 28K miles later. We still own it and still under the BMW 5th year of warranty and unlimited mile CPO warranty. Conservatively worth $52K so ~$2,700 per year depreciation.

2019 Z06 - bought new using GMS plan $79K. Sold in 2023 with 28K miles for $76K. So under $1K year deprecation.

1997 Daihatsu - Bought for $5,200. Put $2K into it (paint, wheels, bedliner, interior) sold it for $10K a year later. Made $2,800.

2010 F-150 SCREW - Bought for $14K with 155K miles, put $4K into it, sold it with 185K miles for $20K. Made $2K.

Just bought a one owner, no accident, Ford CPO 2018 Raptor with 95K miles for $37K. Yes I know the miles are high, but this is again our 4th vehicle so I won’t be driving it more than 6K miles per year because we have a 1997 Toyota Toyoace with under 10K that we use for trips to the dump and Home Depot.

To the OP, new ’23 Raptors in NC are up to $11K off and Tremors are roughly the same. Smart money points to the Tremor, but as an earlier poster stated, if you need a Raptor you NEED a Raptor.

Could you link me a 23 Raptor with a discount like that? Best I’ve seen is like 5k

Sorry, looks like the dealer listed the MSRP with the ADM. **** move. I’ve had experience with this dealer (use to race at VIR with them)……unfortunately it looks like they are using the new slimy dealer tactics and I fell for it doing a quick search.

You've done well managing your purchases and returns. I've done the opposite.
Since 2014 I've bought and sold 7 Porsches, 4 Raptors, a Platinum, 2 Lexus, 3 Hondas. And I've lost money on each and every trade in. Yet, I'm still smiling every day like a butcher's dog, still eating prime steak, still paying my bills, still working, earning a decent living.

My point? So what. If the OP has to ask and is so concerned about depreciation on a vehicle, he's got other issues to be concerned about. A vehicle is a rock dropped in a pond. its value sinks. Who cares? Buy once, cry once, and enjoy every mile.

I’m just trying to figure out how much to expect the true cost of owning it for a couple years…I guess that’s my “issue” lol. I’d rather have my issues than lose my ass on everything like you’ve done. If the true cost is close I’d get the nicer Raptor.

Bought a new 17 F250 drove it for 4 years and sold it for 8k less than I paid for it so it cost me 2k a year to own it. Then got a 2020 F450 drove it 2 years sold it for 12k more than I paid for it, then bought a 22 F450 sold it for 14k more than I paid for it after 6 months then got out of the expensive vehicles as the market started to shit. So again inquiring about which one is going to ultimately cost me more per year a heavily discounted 23 tremor or a 24 Raptor didn’t seem like such a odd question
