You've done well managing your purchases and returns. I've done the opposite.
Since 2014 I've bought and sold 7 Porsches, 4 Raptors, a Platinum, 2 Lexus, 3 Hondas. And I've lost money on each and every trade in. Yet, I'm still smiling every day like a butcher's dog, still eating prime steak, still paying my bills, still working, earning a decent living.

My point? So what. If the OP has to ask and is so concerned about depreciation on a vehicle, he's got other issues to be concerned about. A vehicle is a rock dropped in a pond. its value sinks. Who cares? Buy once, cry once, and enjoy every mile.
Same reason I haven’t bought a new Z06 after owning/selling a 2016 and a 2019……I just can’t do $25K over sticker.

If you want a raptor and buy something else you're gonna kick yourself every time you see one. If money is all you're worried about, buy something used that someone else took the initial hit on. Most people on here buy a raptor because that's what they want, who cares what it's worth down the road. If you an enthusiast ,buy a raptor, if you need a truck, buy an xlt. Or, I'm sure you could get into a ram dirt cheap. What makes you smile when you drive it? Is that important?

IMO a Raptor will always retain value better and be more desirable than a Tremor. So there’s that.

If you avoid adm and even buy a Raptor under msrp, you’ll be in good shape.

It does sound like you and a lot of people have misguided expectations about vehicles retaining and even appreciating in value. Raptors and Super Duties are not collectibles. They’re mass produced trucks that depreciate like any other.

The past several years have been nothing short of delusional lunacy, and it’s finally now coming to an end. Buy the truck that satisfies the urge in your heart without paying a foolish markup, don’t over leverage, and I think you’ll be happy and make it out ok.

Yeah raptors with low miles hold value decently well, but the days are over of getting anywhere near what you paid for it 3-4 years later.

I made 2k on my 20 after 3 years and 20k miles. I jumped on that trade offer and got an msrp 23 with the expectation of losing in the first several years. It’ll all average out nicely though.

Well yeah that was at the tail end of the used car hysteria and that is the perfect sorta resale mileage. Good luck selling a 2020 these days for anywhere near what you paid with 40+K miles. You probably sold at the exact perfect time, or got your 2020 for way under MSRP. My 2020 I traded with 38K miles got 55K at trade in and it sat on the dealer lot for 3 weeks, but that was pretty recently.

Regarding making money on vehicles…..it depends. My Dad worked for GM for 35 years so I qualify for GMS, employee pricing. I can minimize the loss, to be clear, I’ve never made money buying a new car, just minimized the loss. Now used cars are another animal. If you’re patient, are willing to travel and like to negotiate you can absolutely make money. I live in SC and all the used ‘18 Raptors are $40-$43K with 95K miles. I found mine in Mississippi at a mega-dealer and it was certified. They have tight rules around inventory and pricing and there is a point at which they just need it gone. We went back/forth over email, lots of videos and finally they accepted my low-ball $37K. In SC our vehicle sales tax tops out at $500 so it’s really a good state to buy cars.
