Honestly, I bought a 14 becuase of the V6 rumors. So I was hesitant to drop mod money in it if I was only going to sell it in 1 1/2 years for a gen 2 V8. Now I realize I will probably have it a little longer so what the hell! I'm in.

I'm at the opposite.

Biggest fault gen 1 has is the 6.2. I'll drive mine as is until I can order a gen2

I know this is a hard question, but what engine do you think would last longer? The new 3.5 TT or a boss 6.2L with a Roush supercharger?

I drove a Ford Thunderbird "turbo coupe" with a small 4 cylinder 2.3 Liter turbocharged engine and I can tell you this. I had no problems with the car or engine/turbo. This with 130,000 on it when I traded it in for a new Ford Explorer sport (which I drove for 13 years).

So I have been driving Fords my whole life, at least the only new cars I have ever purchased were Fords. Somehow I think the large 6.2 Liter with a supercharger will last longer than the 3.5 Liter TT. I tend to drive my cars into the ground - would have loved a V-8 5.0 Liter supercharged engine on the new Raptor. Maybe in model year 2018 they will offer either a larger TT and I would trade in my Gen I Raptor for the Gen II. If I get most of the cost back relating to the Roush supercharger, then this seems to be a great option now.

I'm feeling the same way. I've never considered SC'ing my truck until they announced the gen2. Now, I'm definitely considering.

And if I've said it before... many of us on here have well over $75k (or whatever # you think an "R" would run) into our trucks and would have no problem paying that for a new special edition provided there was the bang for the buck and it was more exclusive. They do it with other models so I'll hang on to hope.

Good point! And I never saw why the lightning was so special. And it seems most car guys felt the same and thus this lead to low sales.

A lot of people don't see why the Raptor is so special either. That's why regular f150 sales are still more lol, but between the larger cabs and the broader range of capability, the Raptor sales have done extremely well for a ford specialty vehicle and even though it's not their giant gold mine for profit, it does get ford a lot of publicity and is a smart move for them to keep making it. Although I still have my fingers crossed for a Gen 3 Lightning! lol

I've yet to see these sources. The only reason it got the 6.2 was because the 5.4 was horribly underpowered.

I highly doubt you'll ever see a factory v8 turbo from ford. V8 turbo defeats the whole sales / marketing ploy for Eco-boost.

Ding ding ding! I agree 100% on the first part! The 3v 5.4 was a ****, a bandaided underpowered drivetrain with a mediocre upgrade to 3v over the even more underpowered 2v 5.4. The 6.2 even though not high tech was at least throwing displacement at trying to make the engine powerful enough to get out of it's own way and be appropriately powered for the trucks it was going in instead of underpowered. Save all the 5.4 ******* posts, I've had my share of N/A 5.4 trucks, I'm speaking first hand, it's a reliable engine, but it is underpowered. The only "sources" of a v8 tt motor are guys pipe dreaming that it'll happen lol.

I don't 100% agree ont eh 2nd statement though. I bet you will see a factory v8 turbo from Ford perhaps beneath the hood of a future GT500. No way is ford letting Dodge get the top dog award with the 707 hp hellcat. They'll have something to take the crown. The 5.8L is dead and wont' fit in the 2015+ body style. I definitely forsee a TT 5.0 for a GT500. But just because that may happen, I don't ever see it going into a Raptor or any truck. They never brought the 5.8 668 hp motor into anything but the GT500, I don't see a future TT 5.0 going in anything but a GT500 either. The 2014 Cobra Jet concept car was a TT 5.0, so they've done it before, they could easily do it again.

Thats all we can do is wait, honestly at this point i might not be surprised. Maybe ford has something up there sleeve. They shocked us when they re announced the gen 2 raptor so...

How was that a shock? It's been posted for a loooong time, before 2014 production even started, that the Raptor would vanish in 2015, and reappear in 2016 or 2017. And how was the writing not on the wall for the ecoboost? The 6.2 was dropped, Ford was at one of the major auto shows a year or two ago taking surveys asking if people would be interested in an ecoboost raptor, they ran an ecoboost truck in the Baja 1000 race, I'm not surprised in the slightest.

IIRC all their engines are rated for 150k miles as the benchmark. I think that may even be industry wide not just Ford. Not that they'll die immediately at 150k, but that they should reach 150k without any engine related issues. Most people are selling well before that point anyway now days. But either route you go, shouldn't have an issue on longevity either way to 150k. Beyond that, really can't say which would last longer.

IMO part of the ecoboost swap, aside from MPG and EPA implications, is weight and of course commitment to the ecoboost platform. America's best selling truck for 38 years is currently sporting two ecoboost options in the 2.7L and 3.5L. What would Ford be saying by not implementing an Ecoboost into their most widely known specialty vehicle?

I could care less if it has 2 cylinders. If it performs better, give me one. The Dodge Viper sounds like crap and yet you don't hear the whining about it like you do here about the v6

I would rather have the NA V8 and displacement over a turbo V6. You can always make the V8 put out more power. THere is no way a modded turbo V6 can compete with a 6+ liter V8 that is modded. Save your money on the new truck and add a supercharger to your 6.2. You didnt buy this truck for fuel economy.

also, the gen2 raptor's tailgate looks like a big pile of crappy plastic. not a fan
