See here's the thing, why are they suckers? Why does the quote "a fool and his money are easily parted" apply?

The way I look at it, we are paying a premium to have the most badass truck on the market, and can afford to do so. If someone has the money to spend and are okay doing it, good on them! If you are THAT worried about 3-5k extra in financing.... maybe you have no business buying a Raptor.

I understand your opinion. I just have different attitudes about money.

I think that if you are having to finance to buy, then you should worry about paying $5000 extra to satisfy your inpatient ability to wait a few extra months until they are likely msrp.

Im fortunate enough to be buying outright, but still feel it would be wasteful and inpatient of me to pay $5000 or whatever extra just to "be one of the first" to own. But I understand that some have that mentality. To each his own. What I hate is when I see relatives/ friends of mine who had that mentality to "have it now" in their life, and then sing the blues when they are older and feel the system was rigged against them because they didnt save enough.

I can understand that. See, I am the opposite about paying outright. I don't like that idea, I'd rather pay interest over time so that I have a nice pile of cash to buy whatever else. If I could do both that is even better.

5k isn't exactly a lot of money. It is only wasteful if you think it is. Yes, I have to have it now. You only live once, saving forever to then possibly die before you have it is a waste. If you can live comfortably and have it now, why not? Your friends/family singing the blues obviously couldn't do it and live comfortably.

I pay extra for convenience everyday. $15 in tolls daily just to save 10 minutes. Pay for parking when free parking is a block or 2 away. Buy lunch because making my own takes time id rather spend doing something else. This is no different.

Additionally... I have to admit I generally don't haggle with car dealers anyway. I walk in and want to be out asap. I don't have time for games. Yea they love people like me, but whatever. It is what it is.

Hey it's your money if you have to have it now go ahead and pay $5k over.

$5k may not be much to you but it's a lot to my 5 year old in her 529 plan in 13 years I just prefer to be smart with my money and if that means waiting 3 months or even 6 months that's money well saved and not spent foolishly to have it now. Just my opinion I will never pay over msrp for anything ever!

Now you saying people have no business buying a raptor for $5k over invoice if they are "worried" about it is just an ignorant comment because you paid more than those that don't have to have it now. And even more laughable on the next reply of "you only live once" so you get to drive your raptor for 3 months more than the next guy that dies at the same time and you leave whomever with an upside down vehicle? *****!!!

So yeah you fit the foolish description keep throwing money away, as long as your happy that's all that matters.

Awesome, Brother. As a Financial Aid Counselor, you are doing the smartest thing by investing in a 529 plan for your child. Wish more people I deal with would do the same as you. God bless you!!!

Thank you sir! Another topic for another forum but I wish this society would stop the ME FIRST and ME ME ME mentality and think about the future and the ones you love most future by being financially fit.

Disclosure:
I'm not talking about anyone here just in general as I have no idea of anyone financial well being, but as a whole our society is at a real disadvantage and or ignorant on the matter. I see it every day and it's surprisingly more so common with high income earners.

I mean, to be fair to the guys who are willing to pay over MSRP you are hoping that in 3 months you'll be able to get one at MSRP or less. With everything we've all seen with the giant disaster that is the 2017 Ford Raptor rollout I don't think there is anything certain at all. Ford might just stop building Raptors tomorrow and then the value would go way, way up.

Also, the guys paying over MSRP are going to boost the resale value for everyone making it a less bad investment. I wouldn't complain or discourage them from doing so.

Wow. I don't know about everyone else here, but I work pretty hard for my money. $3-5k, and frankly usually much more, equals a lot of things, but in all cases, requires work to obtain. $25k ADM, for instance, equals half of my student loans I took out for my education. If the college arbitrarily charged me $3-5k more, and I said no way, would that mean I "have no business " getting an education? I would argue that not getting ripped off means I was more educated than a lack of a diploma would imply.

If people want to waste money on a markup to be first, well, hey more power to them. They will feel that decision later when they're "**** up" in it and want to trade for something else. But let's not suggest that those who see market forces equating to reasonable asking prices in the future aren't somehow worthy of owning a Raptor. ******* arrogant thing to suggest.

FWIW, I've found five Raptors with almost the exact specs I'm looking for on cars.com and autotrader.com. I got very close to MSRP on my October order, but given that I still don't even have a VIN, I decided to look into what it would cost to get one off a dealer lot today. Three of the 5 had been sold -- one was a special order and the other two were bought off the lots within the last 2 weeks, both for $10k over. The other two are being sold for $5k over and $7k over.

I'm starting to think I may never see the truck I ordered and am tempted to pull the trigger on one of the remaining two I've seen. I guess this is exactly what Ford wanted all along with their horrible allocation system.

Hey it's your money if you have to have [a Raptor] go ahead and pay [$20k over a regular F150]

I hope you can see why you're sanctimonious point is an absolute contradiction

You're doing the same thing he is, he's just going 5k farther than you

We're all paying up for a luxury so stop with the holier than thou saving for my kids BS
