I totally get that perspective. I come from the pushrod V8 with hot cam world (400 SB) where you need to change springs every 30k miles or so. Used to it as a maintenance item of sorts. But it’s not unheard of to get a bad one and it’s lights out. Crap shoot for sure…
Copy that. The more I read on it, aligns with your advice. adding heavier springs is going to give me more headaches. Just looking to ensure longevity of the motor. Suppose Ford designed that spring rate with these cams for a reason!
Thanks Coba90GT. I checked that thread out. I solved most of the rattling when I went synthetic, kept changes to 5,000 (kms) and also replaced the evap purge solenoid (damn thing was making a hell of a racket. I was sure I had a cracked flex plate or rod bearing shot).
My fear with the heavier...
Hi guys,
I’m looking to swap out my valve springs as a preventative measure (I’m at 260,000 km or 161,000 miles). Livernois springs look good but I’m wondering if the additional seat pressure (130 lbs vs stock 100) has caused anyone issues with valvetrain noise/wear (these suckers are already a...
Ahh ok gotcha. Dang those do look handy. I wouldn’t mind a set. From what I can find the ‘15+ models have the holes already for these (the kit comes with self tapping screws). To make them work on our Gen 1’s you would just need to lay them out, mark the holes and predrill. Though I question the...
For the hose clamp tool I’d recommend the Astro. It’s more expensive than the cheapies (but wayyy less than Snap on). When you need it (like for the brutal lower rad hose on these), you will be glad you spent a bit more!

Not sure if this is what you’re looking for, but to add the pocket stake hooks (which are super helpful to have). You need to drill and router out the caps on the bed rails. This is the kit I got and it’s awesome (comes with the bit and they have a very detailed install video)
Bull Ring 4056...
Dang. I’m tempted to try and chase down a core (wrecker etc), pre 2012 and try to find seal kit from Bosch to make a solid replacement.
Returns from Rock Auto are a bit of a PITA for me being in Canada, otherwise I’d buy the BRMC286, remove that outer snap ring, remove pistons and check for...
Hi guys,
Ran across this thread as I’m looking to refresh my braking system (new master cylinder, hoses and calipers) as preventative maintenance. Were you able to confirm part number and compatibility with a Bosch unit or are we stuck with a single seal Hitatchi?
You need the 200 Amp alternator. WITH hill descent. Also I wouldn’t recommend going with anything other than Motorcraft, aftermarket stuff is cheaper for a reason and doesn’t last nearly as long.
I hadn’t read your whole post before the above lol. Ok so you’ve used one. Yeah stuff echos and transfers sound for sure, but I’ve had good luck with mine. The nice thing when it’s your own vehicle I don’t feel as bad loading the parts cannon either :)
This is what I use to locate weird noises. Literally microphones that clip to different spots then you can switch channels as you drive to find where it’s the loudest. Seems like overkill but has saved me countless hours and cost of replacing components that are fine...
They are different than F150s. Thicker. I just did this last Christmas. I kept my old ones in the factory boxes to rebuild at some point. Here are the right part #s (Motorcraft) excuse my handwriting
Good advice. Better to get ahead of it for sure. Was toying with the idea of getting a spare alternator and starter from the wrecker and having them rebuilt, then I can always have a fresh unit ready to go in and no downtime. 100% agreed on the questionable quality I’m seeing for rebuild kits...
It’s a 2013. That column from the wrecker was a 2014 truck with no other similarities (was a regular F150, different engine, etc). The racks themselves have different part #s, but the ignition housing casting # is common. It was the only truck in the yard of this generation so I can’t say with...
Hi all. Success I got it fixed.
Ford wants $2,000 for a new steering column lol, nope. I tried to find a matching steering column at the wrecker. Out column part #s are apparently Raptor specific with power tilt, power telescopic, and with hydraulic steer assist (most of the F150s had not dual...
Only stiff when ya don’t want it to be lol. Key cylinder is good (I rekeyed it not long ago). Thinking it’s ignition switch (the actual electrical switch) now that’s hanging it up. Going to further diagnose and will follow up with what I find
Hey gang, posted this in the Gen 1 section and was recommended I reply here to get more eyes.
I'm having an issue with my ignition/turning key to start. Its been getting stiffer for about a week, hard to turn the key to start. Today now I cant turn it past ACC position to start it.

Thank you for the reply. I did introduce myself when I joined and included photos. I'll add this to that chain to get more eyes. Appreciate the heads up!

Hi all,
I’m Trevor from Calgary Alberta. My truck is a 2013 SCREW and I do most of my own maintenance and repairs. With the ol girl over 10 years old I’m starting to find more issues and came across this site which is a great resource. Thanks for having me!
