I love how the ones saying they wish the conversation would die are the exact ones continuing with rhetoric.

I said I wished the conversation would die. I didn't say I wasn't going to keep responding when dumb newbs posted dumb stuff :)

I dont know how many people who have ordered Gen 2's had Gen 1's like me, but as much as I loved my Gen 1 I knew it was time to sell it. I got almost what I paid for it. I really dont think that will be the case when the new ones come out.

Part of why Raptors have held their value so well is not just because it is a bad ass truck, but because there is still a huge market for them over in the UAE. Just check instagram and you'll see all those guys are gravitating towards Gen 2's. That means auction prices will start to drop because they want the new new. Big dealers here know if they dont sell it locally, they can drop it at auction or to a broker that will export over there. That will end when the 17 launches because they will be selling their new ones at a markup to those same brokers.

That's a nice theory. I've heard a lot of theories. But most said the prices would drop a long time ago. Doesn't matter to me at all, though. Resale values ranks even lower on my importance scale than fuel economy in a 3 ton off road performance truck. I already made the decision that mine is a keeper. I hope to park a Gen 2 next to it at some point, though.

And Ford had other options for the GT ready to go. The V6 was a strategic decision and they have been kicking ass with it. Over 6000 "enthusiasts" applied to purchase one, maybe if it would have had a V8 it would've been 7000.

Probably more but who knows. For the ultra wealthy, exclusivity is very valuable.

And shit, they are piping engine noises into my 350 too. Standard practice for most manufacturers these days...who cares, pull the fuse.

The difference being the sound you are left with. And it's a big difference.

Hmmm....

My E46 M3 V6 sounds amazing and kicks ass... My wifes supercharged v6 in her SQ5 kicks ass... Guess these arent enthusiast vehicles because no one would ever put a V6 in one?

Please.....

That being said I do DD a 6.1 V8 Jeep SRT8.... I do love a V8 but will be getting rid of it for a 2017 Raptor.

I really dont get all the Gen2 hate... If you don't like it stop reading about it.

Seriously go troll somewhere else.:win:

M3 is an inline 6, dipstick :)

And I didn't say "no one ever". I said they are very rare. Can you read?

And no, I don't think an SQ5 is a performance vehicle or an ethusiast vehicle. It's a gussied up grocery getter.

Got to love all the Gen 1 owner comments about the so called "NEWBs."

You idiots think you have a monopoly on automotive knowledge and experience since 2010?

Absolutely flipping hilarious!

Obama must have been giving away Gen 1 Raptors since 2010, because there is a very vocal minority of Gen 1 owners on here who don't come off as being intelligent enough to scrape together the scratch required to buy this vehicle.

OUT.

You mad bro? :)

I don't think the original Raptor will ever be irrelevant. It's destined to be a classic truck, no doubt about it. But I also think it's ok for guys to be excited about the new one without others piping in about how (for whatever reason) it sucks without really knowing if it will or not? I can only surmise that the reason for original Raptor owners to post negative comments about the new engine (or truck in general) might come from some sort of insecurity that their truck may no longer be the top dog in the near future? Also if you have a 700 hp Raptor you've dumped a great deal of cash into it. Perhaps this is where your comments are stemming from? Honestly I have no idea but there is a reason for the hatred, and that's not coming from a good place.

Having said that, logical reasoning would dictate that every generation of vehicle will actually perform better than the one it replaces. Ford is a for profit business. If they want to stay competitive they have to make products that are lighter, quicker, faster etc with every subsequent generation. The 70's gas crisis notwithstanding. Perhaps the next one after the Ecoboost Raptor will have a Coyote TT in it. I think that would be awesome. Probably too expensive though.

The V6 sounds like shit, is poorly balanced and, more importantly, enthusiasts just don't like it. It's the kind of engine a Honda Civic guy gets excited about when he graduates to the Accord.

And there's nothing about a V6 that makes it more efficient than any of the other (better) engine layouts. So it's not the key to the future and the V8 is not on the way out.

That's the same shit we heard in the 70s, 80s and 90s... you guys never learn.

And you can argue that all performance vehicles are niche vehicles if you want but let's agree that V6 performance vehicles represent a tiny little slice of a niche market.

Then why is Ford piping fake V8 engine sounds into the cabin? :)

You say the V6 sounds like shit and is poorly balanced but we haven't heard the new engine unless you are assuming that the race truck is a production vehicle, and its not. Sound is subjective. I'm more concerned with performance. As for poorly balanced, explain how you can state this unequivocally. Are you a Ford engineer? Do you design or build these engines? Have you ever built any engine?

So enthusiasts don't like it. Now you are the official voice of enthusiasts?

I suppose you think fuel injection is ******** too and we should go back to carburetion?

All you have done in this thread is spout off your opinion and try to pass it of as fact.

The V6 is more efficient than the V8. If it produces the same HP and TQ as the 6.2 and gets the same MPG it is already more efficient as it has done so with less displacement and less weight. It will most likely get better MPG and definitely get more HP and TQ. This is fact.

So now unless you have some factual data, not your biased opinion, to show why the V6 is not a competitor to the V8, you can **** off.

Well said... I saw the same thing on the SRT8 Forums when the Cherokee Srt8 went from gen1 to gen2... But not nearly as bad. Once the gen2 came out the gen1 guys realized they were two completely different vehicles, each had their unique qualities and they could live side by side as two inherently different, but awesome vehicles.... Hope the same thing happens here.

Oh boy.....

If you'd been part of this forum long enough, you'd see that most of us love new members and welcome them with open arms....even when they don't own a Raptor. It doesn't matter and it's not a prerequisite to be a member.

It just gets overwhelming and flat out ridiculous when some new members flood the threads with gospel about about the Gen 1 and Gen 2. ...And then take offense when someone posts an opinion or factual statement that may or may not counter their original post.

I got off the fence and bought my truck when I heard the rumors about the V6. And I wasn't the only one who did that. Then I waited to spend the money building it until I knew for sure the V6 rumors were true. My commentary is coming from the fact the I don't care for a V6 in a full size truck. Well, that, and also that I don't care for NEWB-trolls :)

And I said 700+, not 700 :)

I only got my truck back a few months ago and it just turned 11k miles. That said, I'll be looking for something new again in 2 years. At that point I hope to park a Gen 2 next to it. But I'll only do that if they put the EcoV8 they are developing in it. Otherwise, I'll either long travel this truck or buy something else cool to park next to it, like a Hellcat Grand Cherokee or maybe the new Lightning that is rumored.

Let's all keep our fingers crossed for the V8TT Raptor. We ran a poll here and over 90% of potential buyers preferred that as the powerplant.

Your ignorance is showing. V6 engines, unlike straight 6 engines (Ford used to make great ones), are INHERENTLY imbalanced. It's part of their design characteristic.

And what about the new engine makes you think it will sound different?

As for enthusiasts, I believe they vote with their wallets. Very few choose V6s. Fact.

My question stands. All else equal, how is the V6 more efficient than the V8? Please answer the question. Or **** off. Newb :)

It's pretty obvious from reading this thread that many people are just spouting off terminology and hoping they sound like they know what's up. From an engineer's standpoint, a lot of these guys sound straight up challenged and can hardly make an intelligent comparison between a V6 and an V8 beyond hp and torque. And even then, there's a helluva lot more science behind those numbers besides putting down the pedal and making the wheels turn.
