The relays will need to be spdt so you don’t short to ground when you try to switch the polarity. Both the ground and 12v+ with need to be disconnected and engaged by the relay.

in the car audio industry we have a part that we use often that might help with your wiring. its made by PAC/Peripheral. its called a TR7 universal trigger module. it can be used to send multiple signals at different times or when triggered to remain on timed or constant. you might want to check it out. if any of you are interested i can break it down to more understandable terms. the instructions on programming are a bit confusing if you dont know what to do.

Its just a micro controller right

Take a look at this guys. Didnt spent a lot of time and the program didn't have the exact parts I wanted but you get the idea.

so, same concept except you're using SPDT relays to cut the + and - ?
Yes.

If you don't pull the grounds too you would have both side of the acctuator grounded all the time.

I think I have larger versions of almost everything I need to build a test rig, but I will not be able to put any time on it for a few days.

The one unknown right now is what type of wiring the cutout itself has. Either way I think we've come up with a solution. Nice work guys

Yep, I do believe we've solved an age old FRF problem here. Pretty cool!

It's quite impressive how the FRF electronics braintrust came together to work through this and come up with solutions. No egos, just good old fashion team work! Nicely played guys. :peace:

sort of. the tr7 is programmable for many different things for example..... alpine navs require a signal from the foot brake(+) and a pulsed signal and then a latched from the ebrake (-) at the same time in order to use the dvd or nav functions while driving. so you can have a (+) and a (-) being used at the same time or at different times depending on how you program it.
lets say you have a momentary switch (dash switch maybe) you can program the tr7 to send a (+) on the first push of the button and then the next time you push the button it can send a (-) they are also low voltage triggers as well

---------- Post added at 05:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:50 PM ----------

basically the tr7 could replace both of the timed relays
