If anyone who hasn't already decided wants a REAL TIME test of a 2012 V8 Raptor and a 2016 FX4 with a 3.5TT, (close enough to a Raptor 3.5). This isn't a TV, youtube BS test.
I pulled a 14' cargo trailer 2000 miles (yr apart, but exact same trip). Most at freeway speed (a lot at 70). This was across country in the northern part of the country. Read that as mountains, some near 6000 ft elev passes and lessor ones but 6 or 7 of them.
The V8 didn't shift much, the TT all the time when any elevation was encountered. The V8 held back well with a couple gears down shifting. The TT went all the way to second gear and 5000 rpm. Gas mileage was very close with the V8 doing better by .3 (12.1 vs 12.4).
Now this is the heavier Raptor so this is moot, but it felt much solider towing even though it's rated 6000 towing and the FX is rated 12000 (heavy package).
Back home, the FX is getting 21-22 mpg when it isn't towing and the Raptor is 16. Since towing is about 10% of the miles for me, the FX whips the crap out of the V8 for gas cost. The FX flat out has a big set of balls and really will haul ass. Blow the doors off the old V8.
I'd love it both ways, but I think what is, is what is.....
