In what reality is this true? Someone help me out here...

have you been to Raptor Assault yet? you know they still have Gen 1 Raptors there, that the staff use, right? You know they keep up or leave the gen 2 depending on the driver, right?

The DNA of the trucks is the same, the gen2 has made evolutionary improvements in a lot of categories but these are not different species here you are talking about.
‘hero is right, this had nothing to do with gen 1/ gen 2 and didn’t need to.

The closest market analogy the Gen 2 market has is ... the Gen 1, because there is no other manufacturer directly competing with the Raptor right now. So drawing an analogy to the gen1 is legit if for no other reason than a valuable data point. Sure, the market is newer, people can use the internet better to find better deals, but the market is artificially inflated by several forces.

I do agree with X’ that Ford took the Rap upscale and as a result bought a lot of poseurs, status symbol, and Euro-apologist buyers into the fold. As a result, we have a contingent of owners with more cash than sense buying without negotiating a bit, and in some cases bidding to have the Rap. Ok, it’s a free market, but do ya’ll mind if I juxtapose? [ admit it, at least some of you thought I couldn’t spell juxtapose ]

great.

so, back in the days of my pimply faced, hot rod magazine reading youth, we had the 5.0 LX Mustang, Grand National, IROC and Trans Ams. The 5 speed, 302 LX Mustang could be had for about $12k with good negotiating skills, which was - much to the chagrin of many drivers, well within reach of an enlisted E-3 or above in service, or high school graduate with a moderately good job and some financial sense. The rest were more expensive and didn’t deliver any significant more bang for the buck and the LX 5.0 gained a substantial cult following. It put power into the hands of the driving public if they wanted it. Multiple drivers were doing legit, low 13 second 1/4 miles at MIR in southern MD with only a few hundred dollars in mods. Sure, it was basically a ’70’s Fairmont unibody with a big v8 and different body panels but... None of us cared! I can’t count the number of indiscriminate Mustang drivers I encountered back then, there were too many to count.
You know what though?
When the better, SN95 replaced the Fox, when the Modular replaced the Windsor, the 32valves came along, there was none of this kind of partisan, mental ************ about who had the better car, or how vastly superior it was. For all the juvenile, pimply faced, barely holding on to their license, immature, on high risk insurance attitude, we respected the other owners, the same as we would have respected someone who pulled into the pits for a run in a 428SCJ or a 289 convertible.

Here we are, yet again, pissing on the gen 1 guys.
Perhaps the discussion point was made inarticulately, or misspoken but keep in mind that a vast majority of communication is non-verbal and words on the internet don’t convey thought process or emotion. You might be thinking - ‘hah! I’ll bust 2xA ron’s chops’ while he’s reading your response, loading up AK mags and looking up your particulars. You just don’t really know how your words might come across ( I picked Aaron at random, for all I know he’s one of those AR shooting range ninjas ).

Done juxtaposin’. Ya’ll can get back to the flaming.

I stopped reading in paragraph 3. I don't know anything about or care to know anything about foxbody Mustangs, that shit was before my time and rather crude to catch my interest anyway.

Anyway... None of the Gen 2 guys are over in the Gen 1 forum starting a pissing contest. We bought Gen 2s (actually bought them, not ********** over them on Internet forums and pick fights) because they appealed to us and are happy to talk amongst ourselves. The Gen 1 guys should do the same instead of craving acceptance and walking around with a chip on their shoulders and being bitter that prices went up. I am continually amused by these "Ford and dealers should burn in hell for charging so much" threads. Three words: supply and demand.

Boston. That explains more than enough. I stopped reading after “MA” Bless your heart!

look, there’s poseur Gen 1 owners just as much as gen 2 owners. They’re not here craving acceptance and didn’t come to FRF to seek validation of their life choices, by and large.

Respect is a 2 way equation, you want Gen1 crew to respect you and the gen 2, give them some respect. And vice versa. Talking down to people in any venue is a sure fire way to not wind friends and influence people.

Seems like there's been a lot more threads talking about 17s and now 18s available at MSRP and bought at MSRP, wonder how long until we start seeing discounts from MSRP.

Of course still tons of trucks on lots with markups, and it'll stay that way for awhile, but the good dealers are starting to deal.

You do realize that there where "Tons" of 2017 Raptors sold at MSRP from the start. Not all the Truck dealers in the world marked them up. If you research on here you will see that some , not all bought at MSRP, and there are a few post where they paid under. This info will be way back in some of the 2016 post. I ordered mine 8/11/16 , Screw, Lightning Blue, loaded. MSRP. Got it 1/31/17, a little over 4500 miles with know issues, a little over 1000 of those miles have been in the dirt! Just my two cents worth.

The market is huge, just export to China, Korea, or the Middle East.

You can find a ton of Raptors at MSRP right now end of story.

Pretty sure we were talking about less than msrp and invoice deals.

But no problem, lots of posters just post babble without really reading the thread.

Are they? There are tons of 17's currently sitting on lots. You had dealers in high demand areas buying trucks from other dealers at MSRP at the beginning and adding $15k ADM on their lots. The amount of people willing to pay that is drying up. I could pay it but I just think it's stupid to throw almost $20k away like that. I would rather throw that money into something that appreciates in value like another transferable.

I bought my 14 for $500 over invoice when my local dealer was asking $5k over (and sitting on them). I drove my 14 for 25k miles and sold it to a private seller for around $4.5k more than I paid for 1.5 years later (it had some mods). I definitely spend the money on something when I want it most of the time. However, when it comes to a current factory built vehicle that can be found for MSRP or less if you shop around it just doesn't make sense unless you have FU money. Unfortunately I'm not in that category yet.

Great! You got a deal on a raptor 5 years after it came out. By the time the 2022 gen2 comes out I will have already enjoyed and SOLD my 2017.

So have fun waiting 4-5 years. But I'm sure you will get a discount off msrp.

HAHA..... not even worth arguing but I'll play. FYI you obviously didn't know what the market on these were at the time and are wrong about the current one. I'm going to enjoy my 10-20 grand extra in my pocket and drive one of my other vehicles until my Raptor comes in. I can assure you it will be sooner than that. I'm in line for one at $1,000 over invoice and am currently negotiating with another dealer who was happy to come down to 2k over invoice right off the bat.
I'm probably going with the latter as they have open allocations while the other is waiting for more. 2 days in the market for one and looking over the old under msrp thread was all it took.
The funny thing is you guys act like a $60k+ vehicle is some big **** swinging..... You can tell the Gen 2 brought in some of the "import" attitudes. I'm done. :mwah1:

Or, just get a low mileage 13/14 and enjoy trouble free miles! The v8 version will be out soon enough.

Sounds like a bunch of vaporware to me. Please post back after you actually buy a vehicle, instead of stories about how many you are waiting in line for. Till then, I have a bridge in NY I can sell you too.
