I'm not trying to stress you out anymore than you already are, and I'm no qualified engine builder, but I don't think it is as simple as just putting the bolt back in the main caps, I believe the bearing needs to be checked. While your pacing back and worth biting your nails, maybe ask a few engine shops for their opinion. When this is all over and your Raptor is back to normal, you'll be glad you did as much research as possible, it will make the outcome all that much better. Good luck
You bet, I have been doing as much as possible, I measured the bolt, I've talked with as many motor heads as I know. Bottom line is I will get the truck pulled apart, and drop the pan . everything after that is unknown.
1. What if all the bolts visible from the bottom are in and tight.
2. What if it was a main cap bolt that fell out, look at the bearing journal and bearing and then if all checks good bolt it back up and press?
3. Did the bolt cause any other damage anywhere else?
4. What did the mechanic forget to do or what care was taken in the FOM ( facilitate other maintenance) to drop the pan. Etc....arrgghhh!
Sure I'd like a new engine, or better yet a buyback and start over....who wants their $60,000 dollar truck pulled apart with all those questions about it?
Just hate to bring this up and not to whine about it but the reason I bought this Raptor was because I bought a brand new 2014 Superduty Platinum F350 in Dec. of 2013 , it had documented emission(NOx sensors) issues and also the ring gear on the starter plate was damaged and it would spin the starter 3-4 times a month . It was in the shop more in the first 2 months than it was on the road...Crystal knows this as she actually helped me with the referral to a regional rep. ...so I traded it in on a new Raptor, paid about $4000 out of pocket for the trade as my new superduty had 5000 miles on it after Ford ripped that truck apart( dropped the tranny to get to the starter ring gear and replaced emissions equipment.)
I made exactly 7000 miles in this new truck , paid it off, and now it has to get ripped apart. I'm sorry but I really don't like mechanics pulling my brand new truck apart. I thought I had a solid truck and was very very happy . Now this. Snakebit 2 times in one year with $60,000 dollar trucks. I take very good care of my vehicles and am VERY **** about them. It borders on OCD actually!
Thank for all the replies and encouraging words....
