First thing.. Are there any symptoms going on other than a extra bolt laying in the oilpan?
If no and there are no noises then its not from the lower end. The engine would not be running good and quietly with a main cap/bolt missing.
Next is to get it out and find what type bolt it is. Since you say its a fine thread it could be from a oil tensioner or a cam adjustment or locator. Will take a lot of looking around for the same type bolt.
Really P1 should be get teh bolt out first thing and not drive it till you make sure its not from the engine. Suprising that the dealer is not making a issue with Ford about seeing where it came from. Might be smart to get with Crystal here the service rep and see what she can do for you. If it were me I not drive it till I fond out what/where it came fromm.

Actually only one oil change! The 4400 mile change the dealer did and cross threaded the drain bolt, now it sits empty in my garage with a big "Do NOT START NO OIL" taped to my steering wheel.. She is dead in the water unless I fill it up with oil and drive it to the dealer or come have them tow it on a flatbed to the dealer.

And to answer the question from Hockster, there was no indication this bolt was there. No funny engine noises, etc. but my concern is where did it come From? Let's say they pull it apart and can't find where it came from, what then? new motor?

I have no idea how long the bolt has been there. Could have dropped out as I was pulling into the garage to change my oil, or from the time the motor was assembled to anywhere in between.

What I want is a way ahead agreed to on paper for the different scenarios that could come about when they tear the truck apart and drop the pan.

How I would handle it is leave that bolt hanging out the drain hole, call the Ford service number and have them come and take the truck to the dealer.

The reality is it is a guessing game until the oil pan is removed and then see what's next. ( I would demand a new oil pan to replace the one that had a bolt stripped in it). If it is from the engine, it is a needed part and I would ask that FORD kick in a warranty above and beyond for "What IF". Otherwise until the oil pan is removed nobody knows anything for sure. Just my 2 cents, get it towed to a dealer, I would ask Ford to foot the bill for that. in all this mess remember it was a Ford mechanic that stripped the bolt out in the oil pan to start with..

They gave me a new bolt and said if the threads in the pan were bad they would buy a new one. They have not physically seen the truck yet because this all happened on Friday. The truck is still in my garage sitting there with no oil in it. Not much I can do from work today Ill have to wait to get home to see if Crystal read this or not. I brought them all my pictures.
