LOL, be a lowered raptor...

maybe you're joking but it's the springs that support the weight(the front coil-overs, yes they support the front suspension), the shox merely control the movement of the springs to dampen the "springage". i did see my truck without the rear shox and it was hilarious...it went over a speed bump and kept bouncin for about 30 seconds.

Do you still have clunkage???

Clunkage still remains...sounds like it is coming from the front left side....who knows. Maybe I'll finally drop the spare then take the Rap back out onto the beach and recheck. If that doesn't do it then back to service I go.

:(

And this is after the dealer replaced your shock absorber?

After the replacement of the shock, suspension check and running the Raptor at 25 mph in 4-HI on the beach over the washboard type surfaces (this is where I initially heard the noise). I do have the leveling kit and know I am not reaching full suspension droop or compression which is the only time I could think of when the suspension or leveling kit would cause a clunk-type noise.

There are three things that I can think of that it could possibly be:
- the leveling kit strut nuts are not torqued enough and there is slop
- that "weight" around the spare tire housing is loose
- the spare tire is not as secure as it seemed when I was yanking on it

So now I will accomplish what I can on my own: drop the spare and search for the "weight." If that does not work then, as I said, off to service I go to have them check the leveling kit they installed.

I really don't mind trying to troubleshoot the issue, it's taking the Raptor out of the garage and driving the whole 8 miles to the beach each time I perform a troubleshooting technique...of course then there is the $10 touchless carwash immediately following the beach excursion.

Keep in mind Dan (and yes I do know it is a sin per forum criteria, but I don't drive often and can drive for about two weeks or more on a tank of gas in my Landcruiser) I only have 3,750 miles on my Raptor since I purchased it in early October.

Hope this answers your question....it also appears I am on a rambling spree tonight.

Hi Scott, thanks for keeping us appraised of the clunkage situation.

I'm still wondering about the dealership giving you a new shock based on a description of the noise (without a prior mechanical inspection) - if I have that right.

We're right here with you going through this watching your detective work looking forward to the answer. Keep us posted and good luck!

Oh it's going to be a long process since I have three dives set up in the next five days...then the investigation begins...maybe 2.5 weeks.

I'll keep y'all posted.

I have a clunking noise (loose feeling under my feet(gas pedal)) that seems to originate from the right front. It could very well be the triply bypass shocks. I hate the noise and loose feeling and they will probably not replace the shocks because of the TSB about the shock making noise is normal. I would pay to have them replaced if I could be sure the replacement would not make the noise. I would even consider different struts/shocks that would be quiter.

Welcome to the forum! Where are you located?

Sounds like you haven't yet taken your Raptor into the dealership for this issue.

The noise you're describing is certainly not normal and the location is rather strange and may not be a shock problem.

Take it in and let us know what the dealership tells you.

Thanks,
I am from Fairmont, WV (90 miles south of Pittsburg, PA)
I have not taken the raptor to dealer yet, I cringe because I know they will just metion the TSB for the shock noise (bypass valve). The noise and loose feeling is very slight and my buddy who also has a raptor has it too just not as bad, he say i am being too sensitive. I don't know maybe I am.
No other problems with the truck (2000 miles) yet besides a very slight door air leak noise (both sides). I am going to use the latex tubing inside the door seal to fix this.

There is no TSB for the shocks however there is an SSM which is an advisory message for dealers when the complaint comes in but it's not a get out of jail free card they are still supposed to look it over. If it happens at slow speeds over small speed bumps that is the what SSM is talking about.
