6.2 you and everyone around you knows your getting on the throttle. 3.5L only the people in the vehicle and those closely watching you, unless you decide to do a burnout...

I think you are on to something! We need to set up a Gen 1 vs Gen 2 competition next year.

1. Off-road Race
2. Drag Race
3. Burn Out competition

I am in :mwah1:

I'm referring to boost lag and throttle modulation. It's not really an issue when you are pulling a boat up a long hill but it can be when you are off road.
Thanks for the clarification.

Boost lag is basically gone with the right tune.

Actually the boost and torque is what has me more concerned with the 3.5L Eco in the Raptor. Breaking tires loose when you are just trying to crawl up something is not good....far to easy to do in my Ecoboost vs. the Raptor.

Broke the tires loose far too many times in the Eco when I wasn't trying to and one time downright scary, luckily no one was coming in the other lane.

Now how they give you the throttle response with regards to throttle position, yet to be adjusted 'properly' by tuner...nice add though on the off road mode in the Raptor and I'd suspect they'll have that same ability.

This is exactly what I was referring to. Throttle modulation. Turbo motors go from being under-powered to overpowered in the blink of an eye. It's a function of the lag and it's not easy to drive around.

It was pretty evident in the testing video Ford released of the new Raptor.

Time will tell if they can find a way to deal with it in the production truck but given the lack of love Ford's traction control systems get around these parts I'm certainly waiting with suspicion.

Bottom line - I'd prefer the simple solution of a larger engine.

Perhaps that's exactly what the Terrain Management is meant to mitigate.

With regard to lag, I have a 2016 Explorer EB and they have it dialed perfectly. The throttle response is crisp and there doesn't appear to be any lag -- that is to say, it doesn't feel like i'm driving the vehicle which has an "on" and "off" switch, it's pretty smooth.

Terrain management system, 10 speed transmission, and the selectable 4 All, 4 Lo, 2 hi will likely help keep everything under control. And with most new vehicles there will be a bunch of nanny traction control systems in place to keep the truck tame. Hopefully most traction systems will be able to be turned off. My wife's grand cherokee has a "turn off traction control button" but it really doesnt let you turn off much, it still stabs at the brakes when you try and slide or slip at all, its incredibly annoying especially in mud where you need to keep your speed up.

The Gen 1 has something similar, sway control that you can't turn off. So I'd say Gen 2 will have it and many others that you can't fully deactivate.
