So after 25 pages I have to ask some questions... because this thread makes me want to run away from Ford. I wasn't sure where to post this??

I'm hoping to buy a 2017 model.

1. This all new 3.5L V6 engine, how reliable will it be? Again, "all new" so we won't really know right. In reading some bad reviews on the current EB inside the expedition, makes me very concerned.

2. How would Ford benefit from placing a less than capable engine in a Raptor? I'm just thinking from a business model stand point... can they sell enough specialty vehicles to offset the costs of repairs under warranty?

3. All NA engines lose 3% power at every 1000 ft of elevation. So, say you went through the Tioga Pass, which is roughly 9900 ft. That equates to almost a 30% drop in power. Two types I know of that don't lose power based on elevation... electric cars (with their own issues) and turbo's.

Why so many negative comments towards them being turboed. Trust, I've built two cars that ran twin turbos... I'm not a fan. But that's because of wear & tear issues not power or spooling, that's usually easy to fix.

Now you can probably tell I'm new to off-roading... I've been a car guy. But aren't mountains fun to climb? So a forced induction system to make the most out of my displacement sounds pretty "capable."

I currently drive a 2014 Tundra 4x4 (new body style), its cool. Always works, my 2nd Toyota... but feels outdated. I guess that's the sacrifice for exceptional reliability. Its actually why I'm looking at Ford. I've always been a Chevy/GMC guy. I just always thought Fords looked silly... and I'm in the total opposite camp from those voiced on the first 25 pages... I think the Gen1 looks like a typical Ford and the Gen2 looks like something I'd wanna drive.

I digress...

My question with the engine is reliability. If it performs within the needed power band... reliability is the next key isn't it?
The Baja 1000 is super cool, but I drive mostly in the U.S. and stopped drag racing 10 years ago. I want a truck to create new paths. lol. I have a heavy foot so I'm not knocking anyone who wants to floor it through whatever... just expressing my needs. Speed is a secondary one.

I'm also confused by the comments on it exhaust note... really? Somebody won't buy, what appears to be the most technological and capable off-road truck ever built by a major automaker, because it sounds weak? I just can't wrap my tiny little brain around that concept.

Anyways.. please keep in mind I'm trying to learn about the Raptor...

Thanks

To answer your last question about the sound of a raptor, most on here like the deep roar of a v8, most were brought up with that sound, so you shouldn't have to try too hard to wrap your head around that idea. Ive been in the new eb f150's and I don't like the sound, its a preference and not a head-wrapping understanding thing as you put it.

I'm old. I still drive V8's... and it still makes no sense. Head wrapping is based on choosing to say no to all its other advancements because the sound isn't a V8. That is logic I do not understand.

What I don't understand is why everyone is so worried about my opinion. I don't like the sound of the V6TT. That's my opinion. Get over it.

Wrap your ******* head around that......
