I will say this and only once, you dont want any off road vehicle to have turbos. Superchargers maybe but turbos, need clean air to function properly. Regardless of how restrictive or good the air cleaners are in sand, mud and dirt the turbos will get clogged, they will over heat and there will be engine trouble.

I guess now all of the sudden centrifugal, roots and twin screw superchargers DO NOT "need clean air to function properly" lol. ANY powertrain configuration will be susceptible to issues if not cared for or maintenanced properly, period!

Look, we get your farmersonly buddies have supposedly had issues with their Ecoboost F150s in the dust so you despise the new Gen2. No need to keep spewing invalid arguments of why the Gen2 won't be offroad capable and continue :beatdeadhorse5:

If they are being forced to retire the V8 then how come no other manufacturer is doing so with their trucks?

Because they are 5 years behind Ford due to Bankruptcy and Government money.

You think cheby doesn't have an aluminum truck on the drawing board?

Mine probably wont see much desert but it will see lots of sand and mountain roads.

I dont agree with "you dont want any off road vehicle to have turbos"

Ever been to Glamis or St. Anthony Sand dunes? So many sandrails have turbos from 4cyl to 8cyl. You look at all the new side by sides all coming with factory turbos. Dont rally cars have turbos?

Explain that a little more to me about how a s/c motor or an n/a motor is at any less risk than a turbo charged motor in those conditions? Not trying to be a smart ass, but there are plenty of turbo motors in trophy trucks and rally cars that are in horrible conditions all the time and they do very well. In race applications do they get rebuilt? Sure, but so do n/a motors that are being beat on for hours upon hours after a race.

I just don't see how a turbo motor is more fragile than any other motor in that situation?

So I'm genuinely interested to hear your feedback as to the specific risks you see with this motor.
heat. turbos produces more heat. no way around that. so a na motor has the advantage when it comes to how much crap gets sucked in. we have all seen turbo fires. they arent pretty. catch a turbo on fire and the vehicle is done for.

remember, trophy trucks get a lot more attention and care than the ecoboost owner. after an event we are expecting to drive home and go about our business until the next event, and take the truck in every 7500 miles for service. you dont go home and take apart the motor, you drive it to work the next day. back in my driving days we saw lots of turbos catch fire. now ford probably tried to address this by toning down the turbo, but i have a feeling the first thing people are going to do is upgrade the turbo for more power. i just see problems with turbos if people drive the truck like the first gen ones. but im not an engineer and will accept the fact im wrong if i see these ecoboosts go to as many offroad events or trips as i have and put on 100k miles and they are still going. i dont know what the engineers did, but based on previous experience, i see more turbo vehicles catch fire than a na vehicle while doing the same things.

Twin Turbo Trophy Truck 110mph Pass in the Dirt - DashWare

Also, Don’t worry Gen1 guys & gals, there is no need to ban the gen2s from your outings. Gen2s will keep it slow and wait for gen1s to catch up. When we want to go fast we will set up our own and you’re invited to drive shotgun.

I'll take a weak arse TT V6 over a N/A V8 any day.

Where are all these noobs coming from? :supergay:

And, a lot more abuse. Comparing trophy trucks to a street truck just doesn't work.

And now, doesn't ford send coolant through the turbos? I seem to remember a video where they said they do.

A modern car manufacturer wouldn't sell a turbocharged engine if it is subject to catching on fire from being run hard.
