make sure you are using a 2" ball or 50 mm
My current ball is 50mm - measured with an electronic gauge.
Seriously, you should stay away from towing. Twice this has happened to you ? Yikes...…..
I've towed over 50,000 km/31,000 miles
Bulldog hitch for the win. Everything else is guesswork. There is no doubt when this thing is latched. It WILL not come off the ball. Worth every penny. Now, if you don't keep that ball nut tight, all bets are off. Haha, ball nut.

I would try to line up an Applique and convert the look. Then you only would have a split about an inch to patch, repair or even live with.
