I would hazard a guess that the Deavers probably made the frame bending issue worse. They are much softer than the factory springs and will compress far more easily. That would suggest that a hard hit would be much more likely to hit the bump stop and consequently damage the frame.

Aren't Deavers a progressive spring?
If so than that wouldn't be the case here, the springs would end up at the same spring rate at full bump.

That may be the case but you get a lot more momentum in the early part of the suspension's travel that would carry through. The Deavers are designed to be more compliant... to soak up the bumps better. They certainly do that. The trade offs are reduced towing capacity and (possibly) a tendency to bottom out more frequently.

Please don't take what I'm saying as Gospel. Its really just a theory based on what I know about the Deavers so far. I'm looking for someone with more knowledge than me to confirm or deny it.

This is true.
Sounds like everyone running Deaver's need's to revalve their shocks.

Adding some compression should fix this problem.

EDIT: Time for everyone to call and order their 3.0 Fox bi-pass upgrade's today...

Hockster and Fordwop had great points in another thread. Hockster pointed out that most of the guys on the run were carrying a lot of gear. That would've definitely made the problem worse. Fordwop mentioned that the shocks get very hot on a long run and lose their ability to effectively control compression.

It sounds like a lot of guys are on the right track with this issue and that it was likely a combination of factors... the perfect storm.

What Fordwop is talking about is called shock fade, sounds like you guys need bigger shocks with remote reservoir and get them dialed in.
Any kind of change you do to a truck will have effects on how the springs/shocks will react, it can be as little as moving the battery to the bed or moving the perch's, so yes this could be the issue.

These might help :)

Because of these raptor owners pushing their trucks on the outlaw run.. We know where the limits and weaknesses of the truck. Now our great vendors will produce more "must have" products...
