Just received confirmation from a dealer 1 hour from home for $500 over invoice on a build.
Guaranteed agreed upon trade in price when the new one arrives.
I’m starting to think the dealers may know something??

I didn’t mean to suggest it was wrong for the dealers to want more money for their sale, but, I am questioning the actual value of keeping an asset overpriced at the expense of not selling it. Now, I’m not an auto dealer but that truck is soaking up some resources at some level just sitting there on the lot. at a certain point, it’s costing them to not move the vehicle. By “costing them” I don’t mean they’re losing money, they’re losing potential profit.

I’m trying to think of an analogy; I have a house for sale, it’s worth $500k on the open market, I’ve kept it up reasonably and made minor improvements, so I price it at $575. agent tells me that’s high for the ‘barrio and suggests it should be lower. House sits for 3 months, all the while I continue to pay the mortgage, upkeep and property taxes on the house. after 90 days, agent convinces me to lower the price, but I am too hard headed to heed their pricing suggestions and I set it at $565k. it’s still 65 k over priced and I am still paying interest, insurance and taxes, plus whatever upkeep I regularly expend on the house. I continue this stubborn streak for 9 full months, lower the asking price to $525k and start getting offers. after some movement on offers and my asking price I sell at $505k. My neighbor decides to sell for an asking price of $510k at 3 months into my sale, and immediately gets offers, eventually selling at the same $505k after only 5 weeks.

I’ve now spent ~8 more months of mortgage, upkeep, insurance and taxes on my house because I wouldn’t concede to a reasonable asking price. Doesn’t the dealer have similar costs associated with keeping a vehicle on the lot that isn’t selling, ostensibly because they’re stupidly asking too much? Because at this point in the Raptor market ADM is too much. MSRP is too much. Some markets I’m sure get away with MSRP, but are people seriously still paying ADM on the Raptor?

Dealers are not stupid, they know how this works. (the ones that don't went out of business a long time ago)

The only reason dealers won't budge off their ADMs is because people keep paying them. They would be stupid to sell Raptors at a discount today when there are plenty of people willing to pay a premium tomorrow, next week, or next month. Interest on a Raptor at 5% is less than $300/month, so they have plenty of flexibility to wait for that big spender.

Just a summary, don't buy in TX. I searched and had pretty much the same results, I can't remember which dealer but one wanted 10k above since the truck just arrived.

If your friend wants below MSRP he will have to look out of state period.

This is not true for the entire state. I bought my 2018 a year ago before the prices started to come down and I had 4 dealers in the Houston area who were at $1000-1500 below MSRP on a $68K optioned truck. I picked the one with the closest match to what I would have ordered myself. Other TX dealers still wanted $5-10K over, so you have to be willing to check around and keep searching until you find the right match at the right dealer.

I did all of my research and negotiating online and over email, and never spoke to anyone until the day I walked into the dealership to pick it up. I did NOT have a trade so there was no BS about how much my low mileage Gen 1 was worth. I have used the same techniques to buy my last 8 vehicles and it took a little longer with my Gen 2, but not long enough to make me go out of state.

What's wrong if dealers wait for another buyer who is willing to pay more? I've sold plenty of cars on Craigslist and it is disturbing how many retards get offended when I turn down their ridiculous offers. I don't care what they think and am simply waiting for a buyer who is willing to pay my price. The level of entitlement in this country is staggering. Bring the money or ****.

I negotiate for a living, so I guess these things don't bother me. I bought my truck out of state and didn't complain about it. If he can make more money selling it to someone else, good for him.

Agreed. It is really amazing many call the dealers thieves and such. I don't remember anyone having a gun to their head and having to buy said vehicle for MSRP or ADM. It's called "FREE MARKET". If you don't want the vehicle for their price, don't buy it. The dealer did not "steal" your money. You gave it to them free willing. I am sure the ones who are so hung up on it are willing to sell their goods for a huge discount. Yea, right.

Agreed, it's all regional, sell at what the market will sustain in your area, i'm definitely not mad at the business practice wouldn't we all do the same if we were dealers, who's turning down extra margins? The good thing is due to the internet, smart buyers now have more options and can explore them if they are willing to look outside of a touch market. It's with the help of these forums that members can have a gauge on what the market is at and where it's heading so that provides a great resource for many.

I don't care what you do for a living as you don't care what I do either.
The key here was that I purchased what I wanted, in the color I wanted, for $9k under what the losers in Paso Robles wanted.
People and dealers can ask what they want, I've walked out of many dealerships and away from plenty of private sellers. Accept my deal, or I'm out of there. Pretty simple for me.

Interesting discussion that changes with the depth of the year model.

When I bought new 8/18, I found online ads for Raptors with the regular F150 discount of $6k or whatever, just to be told that it was a mistake. At that time, the best I could come up with was $2k off (mumerours phone calls of haggling back and forth on the phone with one dealer), but it was built 2/18, so the truck had sat on the lot thru 2 factory price increases, so more like $3k off a more recent build. I searched w/in 500 miles.

I know some have gotten way better deals, but as others have said, it comes down to time=$$ for me. To me, it seems like 4500 off an 18 or 2000 off a 19 would be acceptable, without having to fuss around traveling for a few days to get it done. Unless you are a gentleman of leisure, or enjoy the thrill of the hunt, and all that. Over 3-4 years, a couple grand is no biggie. No way I would pay over MSRP though. Now, if you live in Kentucky, or wherever they are selling 18's for invoice, I guess the odds finally kicked in for ya.

Kentuckians are already in good favor. At last count there is 1.5 barrels of bourbon aging for ever human residing in Kentucky. Those are damn good odds.
