I have heard more people excited about the new v6 than against it in person.

Looking at the recent V6/V8 POLL and responses on here regarding the EB, I do not see how you arrived at the above...

Was that poll done on this website? Because that is obviously going to be skewed.

Speaking of skewed, my conclusion is likely skewed due to my environment. I live in an area where rush hour can turn a 10 minute commute into 30-40 minutes. On top of that, most people live at least 45 minutes from work without traffic (including me) since anything closer you will be paying 800k+ for something half decent (2000 sqft with no yard and likely a small garage if any). So, THAT is why I want something close to 20mpg and am hopeful with this v6, 10spd transmission and 500lbs tummy tuck.

Ya your probably right it may be skewed but we are the most important people that matter. The outside world doesn't know how bad ass these trucks are. :ROFLJest:

Lucky to get over 13 in real world city and 18 highway. You said traffic is a factor as well so don't count on getting that top end of 18 maybe 15-16... I think I saw a thread about what 2010-2014 ecoboost owners really get as far as real world numbers and I'm sure the new gen raptor will match that. You are concerned about mpg's and off road capabilities but you should know by now you can't get the best of both worlds. Another thing I'm having a hard time understanding about this new guy is that if he's concerned about mpg's why is he also asking about what tire size he can run without rubbing? So you want tires bigger than 35's and you want 20 mpg? Lord just get yourself an old school beetle with big tires and call it a day

In my world, 20ish is best of both worlds. My I currently run 35's with a 4.0 v6, 6spd trans, and older tech. I am optimistic. The tire size was just a question. Just work past it guy.

Ha. Ya, I have always wanted one ever since I test drove one in 2010.

Do you honestly think a high performance off road truck is going to get over 20? If you don't mind me asking what made you consider a raptor as your next vehicle? Do you truly appreciate the vehicle or do you want one because it's the cool thing?

To the OP ... hang in there.

BUT to answer your question about MPG. If the 2017 Raptor gets 18mpg ... that would be AWESOME! But a stock wheel/tire is 35" and is just shy of 100 pounds. The next tire size most guys run would be a 37", you could be pushing 120 pounds. My point is that we you want good MPG then why run bigger tires. The possible 18mpg could decrease to 16mpg with 37s.

And this is why lots of guys here are giving you hell. You want good mpg but you also want bigger tire?

God loves fanboys. At least I am not biased and know when to appreciate different vehicles. My FJ will outperform the Raptor on so many levels, just like the Raptor would out perform the FJ on so many other levels.

The cool thing? Nah, cool thing in my area would be BMW, Lexus or Audi.

And yes... I do think so. In 1980 people were saying the same thing about standard work trucks. New technology brings better performance all around.

Would I appreciate it? Yes... I also appreciate my wool socks. They are very nice.

Never said I wanted it, its all about options and possibilities.

Thanks for the info. I get why people are are saying that and I would most likely end up sticking with the 35" size. I have even gone down on my FJ. The next set I am looking at are more like 33.5 or 34 or so since I am going with an A/T, away from my mud tires. I don't do enough that would make me have a need for muds nowadays... and man are they friggin heavy. As for the MPG's, I am just assuming it will get 18 or so at least... I mean if the current gen gets 13 with a 6.2 v8, it would be pointless to go to a v6 to gain a measly 2 or 3 mpg.

Edit: Small world, you are my neighbor. haha.

I currently have a heavily modded FJ Cruiser which I said I would never get rid of.

18 is better than 8 or 9. That's what I get now, and it is good enough for me. Who buys a (correction for you) decent offroad vehicle for good gas mileage? Someone like myself who drives an hour to work and would prefer less vehicles in my driveway (especially since my state has property tax).

Not sure how you're getting 8 or 9mpg on an FJ with 35s and a 6spd. It doesn't look like you re-geared. I think your FJ's computer may need to get recalibrated for the larger tires. Your FJ thinks you're driving 200 miles on a full tank, when you're really driving 240 miles due to the speedo being off because of the larger tires.

I've been driving modded Jeeps for 20+ years - whether it was a TJ with 37s, 4.88 gears, 6spd and the 4.0L I-6 or a JK with 35s, 4.88s, 3.8L V6 with a 6spd and I always averaged 13-14mpg in the city and peaked at about 17-18mpg Hwy. Off-road and rock crawling, I would get around ~8mpg. I would go through half a tank at Uwharrie in a weekend and do 70 miles of trails - but I was in 4Lo (4:1) revving at 3-4k crawling over rocks some of the time .

Just doesn't add up.
