I will make my normal non-biased comments..

During the snoball 500 even with my Raptor ass sagging.. The Icon performed wonderfully..

Fast forward to TRR2013, Icons still were functioning as designed.. Until I decided to try and adjust the compression on the rear shocks..

All four of my adjusters were frozen solid, and even with a pair of channel locks was unable to turn them.

I have sprayed them with WD40 to pb blaster trying to free them...

June 3rd during the Bullrun, I spent several hours trying to loosen them, broke an allen wrench trying to take off adjuster covers, stripped set screw off in another. And finally getting pissed I ripped off all the knurling off of one..

Not once was I able to get the damn things to budge..

This is in no way bashing ICON and their design (they are west coast guys) not used to the shit us midwesterners put our vehicles through..

The adjusters need to be sealed better so salt, water, mud and muck do not get into them.. The adjusters are a huge selling point of ICON shocks (at least to me and my fairytail cross country road trips). Not being able to use them, and being stuck with one setting defeats the purpose of that selling point.

Hopefully, ICON has already come up with a solution, because I know I was not the only one and they are aware of the issue (points at kankary)..

thanks for the info greg. as i am getting ready for a suspension upgrade myself, i did not know there were issues with the adjustability of the shocks. regardless of which brand i go with, i like to have as much info as i possibly can before spending that much money. that way i can address known issues with each manufacturer to see if there have been fixes.

Thank you for the actual input. :happy160:
That kind of puts both on an even more level playing field.

I know you all have your favourites, and there's alot of fanboy nonsense surrounding the topic, but I'm looking for actual hard use data from those that have used them in colder, adverse conditions.
Bare in mind, my whole winter is a snoball run. 6 days a week at work.
And I'm usually going from point a to point b as quickly as possible:

Has anyone had issues with the boots that are to be used with the fox 3.0 ?
Running without isn't an option, they'd be dead in no time, gone through three sets of factory shin guards already...

ntm do you have a part number for the stock rear shock guard?

Not handy here, but the dealer had no problem fetching them.
They're a common failure point around here, lots of gravel and sand on the roads during the winter. And big 3" crush rock on lease roads during the summer.
Lots of raptors here in oil country, the dealers are better prepared to service them than other places I've been.

I'm assuming they're both built for Baja, so I doubt either would cope any better than the other for seriously cold climates

Greg, sounds like wrapping the knobs with a little electrical tape might be a good idea. I'm not sure but just thinking like Macgyver for a simple fix.
