^^^ What @RaptorScrew said. Anyone who puts 'money down' is being fleeced. Honest dealers don't need extra money right now. The one's that are demanding it - run away!!!

I've ordered many specialty built vehicles and have NEVER put down a deposit. What are you putting a deposit on when it comes to a Raptor? Just another Raptor being built. Shouldn't require a deposit. Now, if you could order some crazy color, then I'd understand a small deposit. But these things sell immediately when they hit the lot. That deposit is just paying off dealer's loans for their new showrooms......

I'm at roughly $500 over invoice on my order, and roughly 500+ miles away. As a business owner myself ~ whether I knew I could resell or not, I'd still require a deposit.
These people don't know me, have never met me, and know me simply by a name and phone number. Ordering the options just the way I want, does carry some risk, albeit small for the dealer. With that said $2500 might be a bit high for some, but I felt it was fair on both ends. And again, its not a "non refundable"

Awesome ... You should win a gold medal! Telling someone they are getting fleeced for simply putting money where there mouth is, is a bit misguided. Just because your experience is different than others, doesn't mean we're getting fleeced.
If we want to take this farther .... $2,500 averaged out over what ... the next 3 months in a decent 3 fund portfolio will garner you roughly $14.50/month @ a safe 7% assuming the markets are good to ya. I get 2% back on my CC that I used for deposit ... I got $50 back from that transaction, and would have "made" $45 of that same time span having that cash sit in a 3 fund portfolio.
I actually made an extra $5 bucks
