This topic can go many different directions…. First off I do not think ICE will fade away time in the near future, precious metals needed for batteries are only going to get more expensive. EV’s are not the answer to offset pollution, you have to drive a Tesla 80k miles just to offset the pollution caused during manufacturing.
The goal of the gov is eliminate the O&G industry. In which petroleum has been the back bone to help completely transform the world in lest that a century. It is still the most efficient form on energy at this time. The gov is trying to force “green” energy, just do a little reading about the UK and how it’s worked for them.

In a nutshell green energy does not work…..yet. Innovation will come, but not by force of the government

I must say this has been one of most civilized intellectual threads I’ve read so far. But then again i haven’t read all threads. But to all the comments , commentators, great convo and view points.

Power grid is key and we are so far behind. I think ICE vehicles will be around at least 10+ years. Corruption of utility companies is astounding. Talk of going green, but actually coming up with ways to DIS incentive one from going green, like stupid convoluted net metering for solar and new proposed fees in CA. Elon talked about de-centralizing the grid, fascinating concept.
Anyways when my gen 3 comes, I wont’ be pressed to replace it with an EV Raptor unless it outdoes it an EVERY single category.

All of the cars I started out on and at one point, dream cars are now dead. Mitsubishi Evo, Subaru STi has now been cancelled, Diesel truck "modification" and encrypting/preventing tuning of most vehicles. Like someone else said environmentalist rely on emotional arguments vs logic and probabilities. Vehicles are the only hobby I have left that I can actually enjoy so I am going to take up gardening.

Lots of hobby vehicles out there for under $2k, that you can tinker on sitting on a stoool instead of bent over in a garden picking weeds. Get yourself an old Ford truck/car from the 40, 50's , you can pretty much rebuild anything on it yourself on a bench. Most mechanical parts are availble for those vehicles as they were mass produced across various models, heck you don't have to even drive it, anything to get you away from social media and the tv.

The single greatest problem is where does the electricity come from? The answer is obviously nuclear fission immediately would produce all the power you could ask for and then hope within a decade or two we finally solve the mystery of a sustainable and efficient fusion reaction which has no long-term radioactive waste or greenhouse gases and the byproduct of, by the way, is helium which is also in high demand…talk about going actually green. Oh no, instead a much better idea will be all the 1st world nations just shut down all their means of production and then just buy fossil fuels and electricity from 2nd/3rd world countries that now hold leverage over you….brilliant. Cause if we do fossil fuels it’s really really bad, but if we buy it from somewhere else on earth who doesn’t care about the environment or human life then it’s totally fine.

A little Ford propaganda below:

Lightning received nearly 200,000 reservations since being unveiled last May and is part of a growing EV portfolio for Ford that includes the Mustang Mach-E and E-Transit.

“Ford is fully invested in electrification and the response to Lightning has been so overwhelming that it was an easy decision to bring it to a NASCAR event,” said Jeannee Kirkaldy, motorsports marketing manager, Ford Performance. “One thing we definitely know is that our fans love trucks and we’re confident that feeling will only grow when they see Lightning out on the track leading the field to green.”

”We can’t wait to show our Ford fans how capable the F-150 Lightning is. With 563 horsepower, 775 lb.-ft. of near instantaneous torque and a 0-60 mph time in the mid-4-second range, I think it will turn some heads out on the track.” said Darren Palmer, vice president, Ford electric vehicle programs.

This marks the second straight year an all-electric Ford vehicle will pace a NASCAR race after the Mustang Mach-E led the field in April at Talladega Superspeedway. Ford became the first OEM to use an electric vehicle to pace a NASCAR race way back in April 2012 when the all-electric Ford Focus paced the field at Richmond, Virginia.

“I haven’t driven the Lightning yet, but if it’s anything like the Mustang Mach-E, it’s going to be a blast,” NASCAR Cup Series driver Ryan Blaney said. “I hope it ends up being the only thing in front of me once the race starts.”

The Ford F-150 is part of F-Series, America’s best-selling truck 45 years in a row. F-Series recently reached a milestone when the 40 millionth unit rolled off the assembly line in January.

I have a hobby vehicle, I don't have the time.
