Flipping Exhaust Manifolds - think turbos

Hi,

For those of you guys who have done header installations or have actually had the manifolds off of your 6.2s - Will the manifold physically fit on the motor in the opposite direction? I'd really like to keep them on the side they came off of and just have them forward facing and pointing up. If not up, the swapping sides and having them pointing down. Either one works.

If anyone is lucky enough to have a 6.2 on a stand with all of the front accessories on it - that would be the perfect test.

Yup... but unfortunately I don't have a motor on a stand to play with, and haven't actually had the manifolds off of the truck yet...

Don't want to make a crossover and a log manifold for a single turbo, if I can flip them and go twin turbo.

I agree, very tight! BUT - the unique shape of the manifold may actually allow it to work. Its kind of going to go out (toward the frame rails) and up and not just straight forward, which is where I think most of the accessories would be a problem.

I'll try to take a closer look myself to see if there are any major hurdles.

Basically, it is significantly more efficient and cost effective to flip the stock cast manifolds than make new ones or route the exhaust from the back of the motor, under the cradle, to the front. I was thinking remote mount as a last resort - though that may be the easiest to execute.

If anyone has stock manifolds kicking around in their garage, a few pics of them would be greatly appreciated. I've only seen them on the truck and from angles that don't help me.

I have a set of stock laying around, let me see if I can grab some pics when I get home.
I doubt it will work with our setup.

Had a friend do it many years ago with a v6 mustang to make a cheap TT kit and that ran a 10 second quarter mile

It won't fit.....we looked into this....

The clearance between the frame and the engine is just too close.

Thanks everyone for the offers. Thank you too CK, I was really hoping someone who had already tried it would step in and help me out. I appreciate that.

I'm thinking remote mount at the y pipe with stand alone oil. Moving the dual tips up before the tire a-la-lightning ... Should make some noise.

Dunno though, UPP's new kit looks great. But I also loved the original too. Good job guys.

Look into comp turbos. No oil system needed.
Self contained with renewable warranty program.

Gotta be repacked every 30k.
I'm not afraid to run oil, just not sure how I want to do it yet. It really is a "packaging" thing for me.
