Hello all, well I just purchased a slightly used 2023 Raptor R. The day after I get it home I noticed it is having the slow to start issues many have talked about in this forum with the warm starts. Took it to the dealer and explained what it was doing and what yall have said. I started it to replicate it for them and it did the extended crank however did not start. So they are aware it is something and working on it. While it’s been in the shop I did some digging on the prior maintenance on the truck. I called the original dealership and found out the motor was replaced due to 3 cylinders being bad. They replaced the motor and then had to replace the motor again for bad seals. So this truck is on motor 3. All within 12k miles. It is also having this starting issue and it was giving a low voltage code when they ran diagnostics. The dealership I bought it from in Texas certified it gold standard and said it was just fine. My question is this truck a lemon or does a bad motor just happen like any other part that goes out under warranty. I have owned it for 2 days and I am now highly nervous.

Thank yall

Welcome to FRF. Pictures, or it’s a prius.

It sounds like there was a pair of manufacturing defects, the seals was a known issue for a while.

#OneLessprius

for what it’s worth right now :-/
so right now, it’s just low voltage / slow starting, right? have they tried replacing the gold certified battery with a new one?

They said the battery was low so fixed that. It’s having the same slow start that several people are talking about with the fuel pump as the likely culprit. However when they hook it up it’s showing the right power like it’s working so they are trying to see if it is actually working like it should, or if it’s getting warm and that’s causing the issues with the pump. Several people have complained about this issue however none of them mentioned the truck not starting when I showed the dealer it actually didn’t start and it only happens on warm starts. I know this is an issue I am just concerned this truck had to get two motors and an ECU and now this. Is this gonna fix it, or is this truck going to live at the shop. The dealer I bought it basically said too bad it’s warranty work but didn’t disclose anything about it. I am going to be pissed if I bought a 113k lemon.

The seals were defect, Ford committed to fix it, they did. so you had a bad one, got a bad replacement and you’re good on the motor now. Slow start issue they’ll need to work through but I gotta ask - didn’t you observe it on the test drive?
Or did it not do it until you got home?

Test drive was fine because it was cold, it wasn’t until I got home and started it a few times while it was warm until it showed up and even then it was I intermittent. I joined the forum the day after I got it and read about the starting issues which really keyed me up. Thank yall by the way, ya’lls talks on everything is so useful I like being here already.

Man I wish auto manufactures had the QA they used to, its not just Ford. There are going to be some teething issues I hate to say it but until they stop fixing it I think you should go thru the proper steps. Totally worth it in the long run.
