GEN 2 First long interstate road trip

Just some observations on the Raptor as a long 3 hour trip on the interstate. They have increased the speeds on our interstates to 80 mph. Is it me or does everyone on the interstate try to race you in a Raptor? I realize the factory cut off is 110 but I have never seen so many people either want to see it run or just like be idiots on the roads.

The lane keep assist and adaptive cruise sometimes is not quick enough to catch slower traffic pulling into your lane. I think that maybe the cameras are not quick enough to make the truck brake, accelerate, etc. I did ride in sport mode quite a bit as I have owned lots of turbo vehicles and they tend to like high octane gas and love full acceleration pulls. Blows the carbon build up out of the engine and makes it run smoother. Overall, it was a great trip and the truck performed great and the wife even drove it for a bit. My wife would love to get a truck but maybe an Explorer, Ascent or a new Bronco.

I mainly just surprised at how other drivers treat the Raptor, maybe it is the 37s or the overal height of the truck but I am not going to do crazy things in it that would result in wrecks but I guess you drive a truck with a detuned Ford GT motor in it then you should expect for people or most everything to try and race you.

I am sure it is no different then what GTR, Shelby Mustang, and even what I experience in my STI. The Raptor is not a sports car, be safe out there and don't take any unneccessary risks.

Adaptive cruise is a driver aid, not a driver substitute. You need to increase following distance for the 75mph+ posted interstates.

3 hours. That’s just a warm up lap. I’ve done NoVA to Louisville and back in a day a few times. The only drama was when my wife was driving 64 near Ronceverte. It’s a curvy section of interstate in the mountains and she picked this place to break the ton.

I took my Raptor from MD to the southern tip of Florida a month ago with 3 passengers, and it was the most comfortable ride any of them could have asked for. Rarely did I drop below 90MPH on I-95, and not a single time did anyone even look twice at the truck (nor do I expect them to, it’s basically just a pretty F-150 to 99% of the population)

I guess it’s just personal preference, but I turned on my cruise control for about 5 miles out of the 3,000 miles round trip total. Cruise control is just not for me, I don’t like my foot being off the pedals... ever. I turned off my lane departure alert from the minute I got the truck at the dealer too.

But overall I must say, the Raptor is one of the best road trip vehicles to spend time in, wether behind the wheel, or (as I’m told) as a passenger.

It’s an ego thing. I once parked mine at a dealership to run in for parts when it was new. Had a guy and his SO looking at buying something come by. She remarked how much she liked the Performance Blue color. He instantly went into a tirade about how RAM has a supercharged V8 700 HP truck coming out that was going to blow mine out of the water blah blah blah. You’ll find some people are very insecure. Just set it to 80 and go.

Yeah, these driving aids can go to hell. The make drivers complacent and do the exact opposite of their purpose. Turn it off and use normal cruise. It’ll force you to be more alert.

The Raptor motor shares very little with the Ford GT motor other than the name and displacement.

I like the ACC when in lighter traffic on the highway. If there’s 3 plus lanes and lots of traffic, I shut Cruise off completely.

The lane departure warning drove me nuts. I gave it 2,000 miles and then shut that off. Quit vibrating my steering wheel!

Have driven between Sacramento to LA so many times, that stretch of highway is unreal, if you are doing under 80 you're either in a motorhome or a semi. Most are doing 90-100 mph and cut in and out from behind you so they can squeeze in before getting trapped behind a semi. Turn all that junk off.

i do frequent road trips. Never do i have people want to "race" me on the interstate. I get that more at stop lights. Every 3/4 and 1 ton pick up always wants to try and jump me off the line.

I think adaptive cruise is way to sensitive, and usually turn it off. Setting the cruise at 85, I is always hitting the brakes as I roll up on traffic (keeping right except to pass) it kind of forces you to just cruise in the left lane which is bad.

Lane departure is spot on for me. Does not activate unless i drift to the edge and wll nudge me back. Works exactly like i want it too. I don't want or expect "autopilot"

90mph is about as fast as I want to go in this truck. While it is still comfortable, it is right on the edge of being controllable in an emergency maneuver situation.

Dude, I wish my road trips were 3 hrs. Had to pick up my son from college for winter break. It’s 9 hrs EACH WAY!!!
