Nah that's normal man. Its called the "clunk."

Only a few trucks (the select few) do not experience this little annoyance. Nothings wrong with your truck. First time it happened to me, I was like "************, this is what happens when you buy used..." but no its normal no need to be alarmed.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Its the weak IWE and the garbage vacuum design doesn't help either. Get it fixed under warranty. Prolly won't be the last time either. :-( very common issue unfortunately.

...Here in Wisconsin, we've gotten some snow, so I put it in 4x4hi yesterday for the first time. Every time I get the truck a bit loose, or around tight turns I get loud popping and jerking from the drivetrain. It's very loud and the truck jerks when it happens...

Hi REKIII,

I get a little grumpy when I'm out in the cold, too! Seriously though, you'll probably want to make an appointment at the dealership to have this inspected. What's the current mileage on your rig? I'll research some options to help out.

Sorry for not searching this. Thanks for moving my thread into this one.

Called the dealer to set up the appt, and they informed me that the drivetrain warranty only covers the Engine and trans, not the whole drivetrain.

So, any suggestions on doing this myself? If they go through some same processes as the stories in this thread I could have the cost of a new Raptor for a bill.

I wish I knew the warranty was worthless, I probably would have bought a newer one. Oh well, hindsight....

Drivetrain warranty should not just be engine and trans!

When the diff on my Jeep blew it wasn't, and when a hub went on my GM it wasn't, but this is my first Ford, so I don't know.

This is the dealer telling me this. Try a different dealer? Is there a way to go up the chain?

I would ask fordservice aka Crystal, I had my rear diff fixed on the drivetrain warranty and my IWE. How many miles on it now?

Extended warranty coverage periods are available for certain
vehicle parts and conditions. Specifically,

(1) Your vehicle’s Powertrain components are covered for five years or
60,000 miles, whichever occurs first. The extended coverage applies to
the Engine: all internal lubricated parts, cylinder block, cylinder heads,
electrical fuel pump, electronic engine control unit, engine mounts,
flywheel, injection pump, manifold (exhaust and intake), manifold bolts,
oil pan, oil pump, seals and gaskets, thermostat, thermostat housing,
timing chain cover, timing chain (gears or belt),
turbocharger/supercharger unit, valve covers, water pump;

Transmission: all internal parts, clutch cover, seals and gaskets, torque
converter, transfer case (including all internal parts), transmission case,
transmission mounts; Front-Wheel Drive: axle shafts, bearings (front
and rear), center support bearing, drive shafts, final drive housing
(including all internal parts), hubs-automatic front locking (four-wheel
drive), locking rings (four-wheel drive), seals and gaskets, universal and
constant velocity joints; Rear-Wheel Drive: axle shafts, bearings (front
and rear), center support bearing, drive axle housing (including all
internal parts), drive shaft, propeller shafts, retainers, supports, seals and
gaskets, universal and constant velocity joints.

Is that all in the warranty supplement? I have to check that out when I get home. There are currently 43K miles on it.

Thanks! I will PM Crystal.

Above where it says "locking rings (four wheel drive)" means the IWE.

You should be covered and the issue addressed. Ask them to check the vacuum system. What happens is if the vacuum isn't good it will let the IWE wear. If the truck was from the south and even though it may have not used four wheel drive, it can still wear the IWE if the vacuum is bad.
