So... I got my truck back in may of 2010. I don't have the clunk but will it still get switched under recall?

Its not a full recall, just a tsb that states if you have the clunk- they will fix it.

If the tech doesnt find that you have a clunk, there not going to spend the coin to replace.

If you don't have it yet, I doubt you'll get it.

Ok, so my SCAB was built on 3-12-11. Is there any way to tell if I have the new vs old?

Anybody got a picture of old vs new shaft?

Thanks

I think you'll be ok but just in case, you can look at the tsb and your driveshaft and see if the part numbers are the same. I doubt they are but there won't be a need to worry, it doesn't mean you have a defective one or anything. For example, there's plenty of us that don't have this new part and we don't have the clunk. Should you end up developing the clunk later, feel comfortable knowing that you'll get what seems to be, so far, a true fix. Oh and there are some pics on here with the old and new side by side but I can't remember where they're at. The difference is in the yoke, seems to be a bit tighter tolerance on the inside of it.

I e-mailed the TSB to my dealership's service department last Thursday. They got the new driveshaft on Monday, and it was installed first thing Tuesday morning. I was in and out in 30 minutes. You can hardly get a burger in 30 minutes. (Not one worth eating, anyway!)

The difference was immediately noticeable. There's no more clunk at stops and starts, and the suspension movement is more compliant over speed bumps.

I did notice the rear suspension seems to soak up bumps better. I guess it makes sense if the driveshaft isn't binding.

Wish my dealer was so compliant. They said they have to follow procedures and have me bring the truck in yet again so they can have the tech call an engineer at Ford who has to concur that the TSB is the fix and only then will they order the parts. This means at least two trips to the dealer which, with my schedule, is never a convenient thing.

Major BS on your dealer. If you bring your vehicle in, it has the clunk, you fall under the parameters of the tsb, then there's no reason why the part shouldn't be ordered or installed if they have it. Never have I ever had to call an engineer and have him agree that that's what should happen. The only time an engineer is called is when a tech calls "hotline" for an issue that's got him pretty much stumped or to see if there's anything related that's not already a known condition. Take it somewhere else if they want to make you jump through hoops.
