I've read that. I believe his source is Outlaw Raptor; they've said they found thicker materials when cutting up a Raptor cab for a cage.

Unfortunately I don't believe there are any pictures. And its hard to ignore that Ford has never indicated this was the case; seems like that would be something they'd be awful proud to include in their advertising materials.

FWIW I just checked AllData and FordParts.com and I can't find anything that indicates there are different part numbers for the cab or cab parts depending on if its a Raptor or not.

Let's not forget about the leaf springs that come with a Stage III as well. But this (apparent) new development makes me wonder if the RPG frame brace isn't a little TOO beefy. I mean, I think I asked Cory what it weighed and he told me it was in the 100 lbs. neighborhood. Subtract that from our already diminished carrying capacity and it's around 10%. I wonder if some thought should be put in to a redesign for '13+?

I'm just throwing out ideas. All the vendors products on these forums are high quality. I hope members and vendors alike consider a thread like this healthy discussion.

I suppose it all boils down to how a person uses their Raptor. There seems to be quite a spectrum amongst Raptor owners, anywhere from street queen to near trophy truck. For instance, a guy like me, I want something that can handle moderate-plus-ish off-roading but still be able to tow a 5000 lb. travel trailer.

Will the aftermarket frame braces fit a 13 with the extra material there now, or do we need to wait for the vendors to R/D new ones?

About the reinforced Raptor cab, when we installed the Brackets for a 50" RIGID light on the roof of a Raptor, holes had to be drilled through the roof for bolts and wires to pass through. The top layer and the bottom layer drilled easily but the middle section was almost impossible, we burnt up drill bit after drill bit, finally having to go buy some expensive specialty bits to get the job done.

Have you done the same for a standard F150?

I still HIGHLY doubt there's a difference.

....and if you're a shop that does this, I find "having to go buy some expensive specialty bits" a load of ********.

.....but I'm not gonna get into the proper use of drill bits.......................

This is why I don't let hackjobs work on my shit.

If anyone knows someone at Ford send a note to them with this thread linked that show the pictures and see what the official response will be. Will be interesting to see what rationale Ford gives for making an end of lifecycle change for this model.

Another way to get some insight is to find out where the frames are formed (sure it is a Ford plant) but there are always people who know the who, what and why.
