Even with the reinforced frame, a well built bump kit should be mandatory for anyone planning moderate+ offroading with their trucks.

+1

Moving the stops further outboard and controlling the rate of axle deceleration are huge advantages all by themselves.

Well now that puts me in a pickle. I was about to pull the plug and purchase RPG stage 3 for my soon to be built 13. Should I scratch that and get icons instead? Icon said they have had little damage without a bump kit. If that area is now reinforced, maybe it would prevent damage all together?

What say you?

I wouldn't stray the course on account of this "news". We have only made an observation, now we have to figure out what to make of it. We've got the who, what and where but missing the why.

Ford sells the stock bumpstops at most pet stores...most commonly known as the Kong. Go pick one up and see if you trust that to save your frame when the axle slams into the bumps. I'd get a frame support kit with some real bumps!!

You aren't kidding either, when mine came off and I actually held onto it, that's the first thing i thought of. Hell I think the Kong would be an upgrade of sorts.

I don't see why it wouldn't be.

Yeah but don't forget the Raptor has a different cab as well. It wouldn't surprise me if the frame was slightly different.

And for the bumpstop question. Definitely still get it. Trophy Trucks run bump stops and they have no DOT mandatory crumple zones.

Let's not forget about the leaf springs that come with a Stage III as well. But this (apparent) new development makes me wonder if the RPG frame brace isn't a little TOO beefy. I mean, I think I asked Cory what it weighed and he told me it was in the 100 lbs. neighborhood. Subtract that from our already diminished carrying capacity and it's around 10%. I wonder if some thought should be put in to a redesign for '13+?

I'm just throwing out ideas. All the vendors products on these forums are high quality. I hope members and vendors alike consider a thread like this healthy discussion.

I suppose it all boils down to how a person uses their Raptor. There seems to be quite a spectrum amongst Raptor owners, anywhere from street queen to near trophy truck. For instance, a guy like me, I want something that can handle moderate-plus-ish off-roading but still be able to tow a 5000 lb. travel trailer.

What's different about the cab?
