I love threads like this. The obvious answer is that the Raptor is as much a truck as it is a state of mind: The styling is undeniably awesome and the fact that it's a Ford only adds to its coolness factor (which is pretty much off the charts).
Raptor - 1
Rest of world - 0

Interesting reading for sure. I agree 100%!
I didn't go to the dealer to buy a truck. I went to buy a Raptor.:peace:

Anyways, when it is all said and done a new Raptor is going to cost me roughly $65000... This for me, is a huge purchase.

HUH??? I got my 2011 for $41K even.

I didn't go to the dealer to buy a truck, either. It was capability I was after, and I came home with a Raptor - the most capable production line off-road vehicle ever conceived.

The options I got on my SuperCab are the rear camera, trailer brake controller, and the tailgate step. After I agreed to that nice round figure I learned that I could have pressed for another $500 and gotten it. But that's not even one percent, so I'm pretty satisfied.

For those on a budget, "want" is not the issue

why the **** is this a topic of conversation?

This isnt a ******* fx4 forum is it? If you are here you probably already know why you want a ******** raptor.

/surly mood

This forum is to learn what are the advantages of a Raptor vs FX4. There are a lot of interested buyers who can only afford one or the other but not both. For those on a budget, "want" is not nearly as relevant as what is "right" to buy.

We all know a Raptor:
1) has the "wow" factor of being "hot" looking & the fastest factory built off road vehicle
2) it costs at least $4-7K more than a similarly equipped FX4
3) uses ~$1-2K/yr more fuel than similarly factory equipped FX4

As regards the "wow" factor, it is unlikely there is a person in this Raptor community that has more experience than a male dentist who went back to school to become an OB/Gyn. Dentist - no "wow" factor but good income & lots of free time. Ob/Gyn - unlimited "wow" factor in the beginning, now just another job with almost no free time but at least it pays well enough that I didn't have to choose between an FX4 & Raptor.

Now driving both 2011 FX4 & used 2011 Raptor screw x 3 weeks. Conclusion so far is:

1) The FX4 6'5 ft. screw is superior when it comes to affordability, load, trailer capability & highway handling.
2) The Raptor is superior in driving fast on "bad" roads
3) The Raptor styling is definitely a "wow"
4) Feeding a Raptor is also definitely a "wow" with Raptor 11.5 mpg (12,597 miles) compared to FX4 16.9 (7589 miles) & since putting on Raptor wheels & 35x12.5x17 tires 15.5 (565 miles)

If going real fast off road is a must, only the Raptor can do it with a factory warranty. Modifying an FX4 for high speed off-road running can adversely effect the truck's electronics, ride, fuel efficiency & void the warranty.

For those on a budget, keep things in perspective, the "wow" factor is likely to be gone before the payments.

This is a car just like any other with pros and cons.

You have to weigh them to see if it is a fit for you. The Raptor being unjustifiable in your case is a personal problem. I still don't understand the need to share these observations with others when they are clearly presented and most others on this forum have chosen that a Raptor is fit for them.

"I still don't understand the need to share these observations with others when they are clearly presented and most others on this forum have chosen that a Raptor is fit for them."

Do you know what a useful idiot is? A useful idiot is someone who suspends common sense & reason to go on feeling good believing the unbelievable.

Sharing these observations will help someone who isn't a useful idiot make the right purchasing decision & not waste their hard earned money on "feelings."

Does that answer your question?

"The Raptor being unjustifiable in your case is a personal problem."

"Unjustifiable," then why did I buy one? Answer: I could afford to buy both what I "wanted" without asking someone else to help me buy what I "needed."

"A personal problem?" HELL YES. It is not only a personal problem, it's a national problem.

Folks who advocate "doing it because it fits what you want" are bankrupting this country. There aren't enough of the rest of us who can buy both what we need & want, then be forced to buy what the rest need, so they can buy what they "want."

I am now delivering 3 times as many babies to single women who can't afford to pay for their care, but have i-phones, tattoos, body piercings & anything else they "want" & their boyfriends can't afford the child they spawned and also afford to buy the truck they "want." Well there is no free ride. I gave up my time for free & someone else, maybe you or Ford Motor had to pay the hospital for the care these patients get for "free" through increased insurance premiums & taxes.

If you don't like the information on this discussion & can't add anything constructive, then start your own discussion on why useful idiots should buy the Raptor they "want" even if they "need" a different truck.

^^Not at all dab. Don't over estimate the influence or importance of your opinion. 'Cause that's all it is. You seem to be forgetting that you're stating OPINIONS, not FACTS.

Case in point, your "wow" factor argument. Its wholly a personal preference. Where someone might go "wow" at the styling, other's go "barf!". Where I might go "wow" as we fly thru desert, others my actually barf from fear/motion sickness (there's a reason the first Raptor's came with barf bags ;).

Another example: your MPG argument. Its just silly. Period. You continue to harp on it, and seemingly ignore the power advantage bought by the cost of those MPGs. To many, that power alone justifies the gas cost. Your opinion is it doesn't. Others' opinion is that it totally does.

So you can put away your useful idiot idea. Instead, how's about saying "its just my opinion..."? I don't think anyone (myself included) would argue with you if you came into this acknowledging that.
