It’s not a lot of work to install the down pipes from looking at it. I just didn’t have the tools or place to do it at really. From what they told me the bolts can be a pain to get out, guess it helps to heat them up. They still broke one off and this was at the ford dealership so you do need the extra parts pkg that is offered for 99 dollars when you buy the spd adapters in case you break a bolt. Cause then you have to extract it and all that and will need the extra bolts. I have AFE catted down pipes

Why do you have to do that, does your tune need alittle tweaking or something? This is what all tuners have you do if something is not how u like it I think

Read the instructions for the tuner install on their website

Received mine this afternoon! Grabbed the stock file off the ECU and sent to Whipple, hopefully have it tomorrow.

The intercooler install went ok... I had a few issues. The stock cooler is very light weight and the hoses easily held it in place with the bracket removed. However when installing the new cooler I could not for the life of me get the fans and cooler to fit, too thick! I them took a harder look at the ducting from the bumper to the intercooler and noticed there is a removable spacer in there. I removed the spacer and everything went right in. A floor jack is nice to move all that stuff up into position.

New vs old intercooler, nice piece of kit

Below you can see that there just isn't room for the ducting, spacer and new thicker cooler

It doesn't matter, the replacement intercooler is larger than the old duct anyways

This part was a ******... That trimming to seal the intake into the air box is a TIGHT fit. Be sure to get it started and then immediately kind of tuck it down into the box otherwise you won't have any room on the back side. Photo of how NOT to do it. As far as the trimming to seal the airbox to the hood, the instructions say you'll need to cut at the corners, not true. Pre-bend the trimming (it has metal inside) and it'll slip over in one piece.

All done, except tune! Plugs gapped to .025" and even without a tune the truck runs smoother. Plugs 2 and 5 showed excessive lean condition, white plus deposits, all others were perfect. This could be from the ChipTwerke I had previously.

I did not jack up the front, you can. I have a level kit so that gave me enough room to rest the coolers on my stomach and slide out. The New cooler rolled in on wood and floor jack.

The truck has a noticeable increase in power, its back to spinning tires through second again.

Enjoy!

As per the tomahawk instructions, after getting the file from the programmer it asks for the VIN, Tomahawk S/N, etc. but what is the "Microprocessor Serial Number" and where do I find it. Is this the PCM S/N?

so is there a gap with the duct removed? maybe use some aluminum tape to bridge the gap?

Yes, there is about a 5/8-3/4" gap around between the intercooler and the ducting. Again, the ducting is also smaller than the frontal surface area of the new heat exchanger so this is a mute point of concern unless you custom built a diffuser.

To be honest I'd leave the gap. The old system would collect detritus after off-road excursions that was cumbersome to remove. I'm not seeing nor am I able to generate any kind of heat soak. Max observed knock retard was .4*. Boost looks to peak right at 20.

This tune is SOLID! Nice firm shifts in Sport Mode, like a nail gun 1-2-3.

Just did a run from 0-80. IAT at a 3 minute light was only 118 and it quickly dropped to 100 above 45 mph and stayed there.

Does it feel like a whole new truck or does it just feel more peppy?

It's quite a bump over stock. I think the Chipwerke makes a bit more power as it would damn near torque steer the wheel out of your hands in 4A, not so much with the Whipple.

I feel the Whipple is a safer, more conservative, smoother setup.
