Hello All! Any help is appreciated. So My brothers 2018 raptor with around 98k on it has been giving lots of problems here lately. more recently he was towing his boat to a lake about 45 minutes away and it lost all power and blowing smoke. Towed to ford garage for them to sit on it for a month and not look at it. So we brought it home and figured out both turbos went bad. (I used to work on boats for a living for over 10 years so mechanical stuff is nothing new) Replaced both sides, all seemed fine but then shortly after (within probably 500 miles) the timing chain and phazers got really bad and started throwing code so back to the dealer and had them do that. The timing issue was there prior to the turbos going but wasn't coding, just the start up rattle. Now while driving it sounds like the wastegate(s) will open and close rapidly for a few seconds very randomly. Obviously, the truck surges and slugs while doing this do to loss of boost. No codes will come up when it happens and the truck doesnt have a boost gauge. noticed these are actually Eletric wastegate which is new tech to me. Also, on occasion getting code for the cats being below efficiency which i assume is probably from oil being sent into them so that's a different problem I believe.
so my question is, Is there some kind of reprograming that needs to be do after replacing turbos since they are Eletric wastegate? Has anyone ever experienced something similar? Cant say that the problem was noticed after replacing them and before it went in for the timing. we are going to go back over and check the plug and wiring. Thanks in advance!!
