Spoke to a completely different Ford dealer yesterday and here's what he said about plans and discounts on raptors:
"For a majority of the time they were available, F150 raptors were ineligible for a/d/x/z plans; however for a short period of time in 2013-2014 they did allow the plan to be used to buy a raptor because of increased production. This isn't necessarily an indicator that they'll allow the plans to be used on the 2017 raptors, but at least there's some hope. If you're eligible for one of the plans and Ford will allow it to be used on the raptor, then you're all set. If not, it was worth looking into anyway."
He continued about production further:
"You're not going to see raptors for some time. While you'll be able to order one, they won't be kicking them off the line until they've ramped up production on the standard F150's. When you're building a new truck [and the 2017 is new with different transmission and other changes] you don't just slam into full production. You begin slow on the most basic model, working the kinks out of the production line. As things progress you add in the expanded options and upgraded trucks. Raptors will be produced once they've worked their way through this process."
Honestly I could care less what month I get my 2017 raptor. Sept/Oct/Nov/Dec - Jan/Feb/Mar/Apr/May 2017... so long as I wind up with an honest dealer who will let me actually place an order at a reasonable price without attempting to gouge the hell out of me, I'm good. The longer I wait, the more likely I'll be purchasing complete cash (hate loans and don't take them if I don't have to). All I want to hear come fall is, "Alright - we've placed your deposit down and officially ordered your 2017 F150 Lightning Blue Raptor."
Oh - one more thing... he said he could "see" the raptor in their system. Exact words where, "there's no pricing, but I can see package names [without description of what's in the packages], and colors. Colors exclusive to the 2017 raptor are the lighting blue (should have read lightning, but his system had it spelled wrong), some kind of metallic silver" I really stopped listening when I heard the blue. Of course it'll be available in that color because it's what they debuted it in at the auto shows, but it still got my heart pumping. The other colors it's going to be available in are already available for other Ford vehicles, but colors I remember him saying, "Avalanche, black, oxford white?, magnetic something, lightning blue..." I think a few more, but my dad-brain is affecting my memory right now.
Best of luck to anyone else thinking of ordering a 2017 raptor. Based on my calling around, I'd avoid any major city where they typically cater to people that have money to literally burn in a fireplace (such as SF) - as those have been the ones that have given me the "well we're going to see who wants to pay the most above MSRP and offer them the ability to order one."
