Very violent shifting from park to reverse or drive

Hey guys, so I have been noticing that when going from park to reverse or drive the shift is very violent, makes a loud thud, and even getting the shifter to move out of park is a little more difficult than it should be. I have noticed this a few times, but it doesnt happen all the time. I was in my driveway yesterday and it did it. Happens in 2wd and 4wd.

Any ideas?

Is your drive a steep incline or decline?

nope, pretty much flat. I was also reading on another forum where everyone was saying that it needs a few minutes to warm up. This same thing happened a few times where I was just making a quick stop of less than 15 minutes so I doubt it could be related to cold fluids.

If your driveway isn't flat, I would recommend setting your parking brake before shifting the truck to Park when parking. Then, when moving your truck, place foot on brake, shift to gear, then remove the parking brake. This will keep the weight of the truck off of the transmission and may solve your clunk problem.

If it helps, same happens to me most of the time and the other times, just not paying attention. I've gotten into a bad habit of not using the parking brake so it's difficult for me to remember (always do it on steep inclines) plus once I put the seatbelt on, can't reach the brake release so have to undo. But yes the parking brake concept does help.

You can always have your dealership check this out; if possible, show your tech what you've described here to aid in their diagnosis. What's your Raptor's model year and mileage?

@FordService its a 2014 just passed 2000 miles today.

just didnt seem normal since it has never happened on any other cars I have parked in the same spot.
