Any other sound system upgrades worth the cost/effort?

That’s the harness i bought. I have a fully active system meaning each speaker gets its own channel so that’s the reason for the 6 channel. I’d only suggest this if you’re going to run a sound processor. Maybe you’re ok with the passive cross overs for the tweeters but idk. If you’re only upgrading the sub, you could get a mono amp and run rca from the head unit to that amp then speaker wire to the sub. You wouldn’t need that harness if you’re just doing a sub upgrade.

I've already got this setup for the sub:

NVX VADM1 500w RMS amp (4 gauge power and ground)

JL 12" low-profile subwoofer with truck wedge box (fits under passenger rear folding seat section)

Hi/low line converter from the left and right front speakers (fuse-tapped into fuse 38 in the passenger kick panel, also turns the amp on and off)

Remote bass knob installed between shifter and cup holder

I don't plan to get anything crazy with the sound system, just trying to figure out if I would actually see any benefit going around the Sony amplifier to run the speakers (minus the subwoofer), especially if I'm not running a head unit focused on sound quality.

i gotcha. its been a few years since i did mine so i don't remember all the plugs going into the Sony amp, but i would think there should be an input harness coming from the head unit and then the output harness. Theoretically you could connect those 2 harness together and then the head unit would be controlling the speakers directly. Not sure if that is better than the Sony amp though.

I assumed that was the idea of the PAC Audio harness was to be able to retain the factory wiring, but instead use an aftermarket amplifier in place of the Sony one to properly power the aftermarket speakers. I would technically only need a 4 channel amplifier to run the front and rear speakers since the subwoofer is already pulling speaker signal from each of the front speakers and has its own amplifier.
