True if you're doing it incorrectly

Firefighter training here

Put your knee or both knees into the car seat then buckle the belt

Now pull the belt all the way out to activate the self-locking mechanism - almost EVERYONE misses this step

Still holding the excess, make a loop of webbing on the side with the buckle, and use this loop to yank all the slack out of the lap portion while you're putting slightly more weight on the opposite side - to keep the seat from sinking to the buckle side

Feed excess back into the shoulder clickity clackity thing

This entire time, your weight has been in the seat - once you get off - the lack of weight will further pin the car seat into the cushion

Everyone one of my "belt" installs doesn't move at all in any direction

FYI - you should still use the top tether with a seat belt unless your car seat says no

ha don't make fun of me I went to the fire station and had my seats installed (F250) I am so paranoid I will do something wrong and hurt my kids. I donated $40 to the station also
BUT no way not even close on the movement part. my seats now in my Raptor do not move a hair in the F250 the def moved and it was sideways. that don't mean either is safer but to me it is and that's all that matters unless someone told me the seat being solid is bad I will keep it that way

I think you're trying to tell me you want to call BS on my no movement with shoulder belt install?

Do everything she does but with both of your knees in the seat ie all your weight the entire time

LOL no I said I am sure there is no difference safety wise BUT the belt strapped in seat def moved and my latched in seat don't move a hair. does that matter for safety? I have no clue I was just saying it does move.
I am not the greatest at spelling punctuation or forming a sentence so maybe you just didn't understand my mess of a post?

This is an even better video https://youtu.be/9Mq9bo3-j84?t=36s

If your kid is above 40lbs, you shouldn't be using latch anymore, it's intended for smaller kids

Guidelines will say you shouldn't be able to move more than 1" in any direction at the belt path, put both knees in your seat as you let the belt ratchet back and you'll have zero F movement

I don't like any movement at all - the more movement, the more unsafe it becomes

yes I put my knee only one will fit in the seat I am 265lbs athletic muscular build and pull as hard as I can on each strap the seat will not move a hair. you say the more movement the more unsafe thank you for that as that is what I had thought also but don't really know my common sense said that so that's why I pull so hard. I am willing to bet my back seat will have indents in it forever when the baby seats comeout but I don't care I am so paranoid.
both kids are around 50lbs my 8yr old is skinny lil girl my 5 year ols is a truck built more like me.
8yr old don't ride in my truck often but I need to change to booster seat for her like in momas car. the 5yr old still fits so I will leave her until she is to big. the seats make me feel safer than the boosters so I want to run long as I can. again no idea if that is true either but in my head it is.

thanks for your input its making me feel better about some of my choices. I really didn't know if so tight was good bad or didn't matter. but assumed tight was better and according to you it is so that's good to know.

I've got my armor on just in case

If she's not almost 5' or 80lbs, she shouldn't be sitting in the front - states' laws are antiquated, look at what most car seat organizations state

That's usually around age 12 for most kids

Yea well we are on our private 2 mile paved road to our house... she was in no danger bud.. your just another self riteous pce shit on a forum that is known for just having mostly people on here that look for anything to bitch and argue about. So take your law following punk ass somewhere else.. I will do things with my family how I see fit and I appreciate it if you do same with yours. Have a good day.

Geeze, the guy was simply offering advice and it didn't read as offensive or attacking in any way to me at least. Relax and enjoy your truck, family and 2 mile paved road. Wish I had that kind of entrance to my pad.

On another note, I just bought the top of the line Britax convertible car seat for my one year old. They recommend using the seat belt over the latch system. Problem is we have inflatable belts on the raptors and my wife's explorer which are not compatible with the Britax. Bummer that I'm relegated to the 40lb weight limit on the latch. The damn car seat set me back $500 after tax and I was hoping this would work for a long time.

hmmmm, didn't we used to ride unbelted in the back of trucks as toddlers while speeding down the freeway.?. if we bounced out our parents simply turned around and picked us up,,, when they noticed we were missing... (sometimes it could be days.).

oh hell that's interesting my Raptor is the old one 2014 no special belts but the Wife has 2018 Explorer and I did notice the belts look weird no one told me they inflate, lmao. so my bigger kid uses a booster in the explorer is there anything I have to worrie about there? it fits her fine.
my lil one is close to 50lbs and she is still in car seat with latch did they say why the belt system is better? I cant see why it would be but as I said a million time I don't really know I just assume. thanks

Check out the instructions on the booster but I'd imagine the belts are fine for that. Britax didn't specify why the belts were better. I speculate that it's because there's no weight limitations.
