So recently (Blizzard of 2013), I was messing around in the snow. During one attempt to climb the hill behind my work I bottomed out on the rear hitch. I lost my receiver hitch cover in the process. I don't think I'll see that thing again, until spring.
I thought about buying a new one, but I remembered I had one left over from Fathers Day. After digging it out of the closet, I didn't think it would fit the "look" of the Raptor. That's when I had a brilliant idea.
First, I removed the oval urethane insert and scuffed it up with a Scotchbrite pad. Then, I primed the piece with primer made for plastic. I had a can of Rust-Oleum Black Night Metallic so I used that as the color for the piece. I followed up with a couple of layers of clear coat, sanding with 2000 grit between coats.
I used 3m Super 77 to reattach the urethane oval to the plastic plug. Then carefully aligned the smallest of my FRF decals to the newly painted piece. The result, Is my one of a kind, kick ass, rocking FRF receiver hitch cover.
It was dark out when I finally finished it, I will take another photo in the day light so you can see the finished piece and drool, suckas...j/k
