I would be absolutely excited for this truck if it had a V8 option. The V6 EcoBoost just kills me. I have the same EB in my wife's '13 Explorer Sport, its just not an engine I would want in a full size truck.

Please, Ford, please.

I've got the eb in a 4/4 screw and it picks up just fine. I ran into my guy today that drives it and I jumped in it revving it to pay attn. to the sound and ehh, but I'd assume the hopped up one will sound better.. I have had issues pulling into traffic with her and she didn't pickup as fast as I was expecting, I had a close call with this the first week driving it so afterwards I always just made sure there was plenty of room,, I'd hope/expect this is worked out by now.. But I'd still prefer a v8 option if I were to buy the new truck. Screw the epa lol

I was so hoping Ford would use the 5.2 FPC v8 in the new Raptor... buuuuuuut noooooo! Ford put a lot of R&D into that motor, and for what? To only use it in ONE of their vehicles??? I'm really hoping it was just a logistical issue that they couldn't sort out in time (the guy heading the new Raptor development did say something like "I just want to get this out as fast as possible").... I'm hopeful we'll see the "voodoo" engine in the Raptor sometime in the future. But honestly I'd even take the 5.0 over the v6....

I really wish you people would drive an Ecoboost F150...

Ever since Ford introduced the new Raptor with the ecoboost V6, I have heard mostly bitching and complaining about this all new motor. It's like you're all 75 year old man that say "back in the good ole days I had a V8 in my truck..blah blah blah."

I emplore you......go test drive an F150 with the 3.5 ecoboost. You will be amazed with the acceleration and the torque. Truth be told, I own both (a '14 Raptor and a '14 ecoboost F150) I honestly wish my Raptor had the ecoboost motor. The torque on this thing puts you back in your seat. It's quite impressive really. If technology trickles down (or up in this case) Ford will have V8 sounds pumped into the cab and it will sound just like a V8. (I drove an eco '15 F150 last week, it sounded just like an F150.) keep in mind, this new 3.5 should have more horsepower than the raptor now! I can't wait to see what this feels like!

and by the way.....you guys that say "I won't buy a Raptor with a V6!" Plllleeeeeaaaaasssseee!!!! Your ass hurts!! If you're a true Raptor enthusiast, you won't let a motor get in your way.

Sorry but that just seems ricey to me (pumping fake engine sounds in). I prefer real V8s that make real engine sounds.

Plus, bigger is better.

Changing subjects here, but take the new Ford GT, for example.

It's going to have a 600 hp 3.5 liter.

Here's how the math works...

600/3.5 = 171 hp per liter

171 * 5.0 = 855hp (this is what they could get from a similarly tuned eco-V8)

It's only a matter of time before Ford puts a V8 in both the Raptor and the GT. This is just like 2010 when they rushed the Raptor out with the 5.4.

I'll wait.

This really reminds me of something. It's been bothering me and I can't keep it in any longer. I cannot believe memories are so short that people do not remember the XJ220. Look it up if you're too young or you don't remember. The project never recovered. All because they chose a V6. What could have been one of the all time greats is a historical footnote.

Take note, Ford.

My cousin owns a 2012 Ford F150 Platinum with the ecoboost engine. We are fishing partners so I drive his truck a lot. I agree that it has pep and low end torque, but its boring. Sounds weak and I hate the turbo whoosh.

I think a lot of these guys have forgot what a real v8 sounded like back in the day. Our 6.2l v8 can be made to sound decent, especially at startup and lower rpms but these overhead cams just don't have anywhere near the great sound of the ol' pushrod v8s.

It's all relative. I remember driving my Raptor the first day before they installed the aftermarket MBRP, not a very good sounding v8 by any stretch. I've listened to a lot of variations of headers and exhausts but none of them are nowhere near what the older v8's sounded like.

So, yes we do have v8s and they can be made to sound decent but they are nothing compared to the older v8s. I have noticed that aftermarket exhausts on these ecoboosts seem to have a wider range of tones. Some sounded not too bad and others so-so. Will be curious to see what the stock one will sound like and what can be done to it. Still holding out for a v8 option but if not, I hope they blow us away with the horsepower and improved off-road prowess. I'm hoping I can get used to a TTV6 sound just like I've gotten used to overhead cam v8 engines. We're certainly not going back to engines from the 70s and 80s or older. It is what it is.

I don't agree. I don't think the exhaust note has anything to do with where the cams are located. It's about firing order and exhaust routing. I don't know what the firing order is on the Boss 6.2 but with a set of true duals there is no reason it would not sound as good as any other V8 with the same firing order.
