TFL: Gen 3 + GT500 V8 is confirmed

Look at it from TFL's standpoint. They get paid for views. They can say TTV6 with an electric assist, check back in a year to see if it's going to be MY2022 or MY2023, or they can say Confirmed! Blown Brodozer TRX-killer! Simply amazing! Stay tuned for details. Because maybe one in a hundred viewers will even remember today's video a year from now, it's a slam dunk. As an aside, our news media works the exact same way, and they're every bit as reliable as TFL. No wonder we're circling the drain.

I get it for sure. Its an easy way to dunk on the TRX without actually doing much legwork.

I'm not going to get into a conversation about the news on this forum, especially with the seemingly stunted education of some of the members here.

I've said it before and I'll say it again; I have someone close to me who worked at FoMoCo until very recently and maintains many of the relationships with people still there and according to them the Ecoboost V6 is still the flagship engine and will be the powerplant. And they haven't used any coy language either, and I don't think its a swerve either.

Plus the V6 hybrid is WAY more interesting than a V8, IMHO.

No juicy tidbits on specs? I’m sure it’s kept tight lipped.

I get that Ford wants to show the trx who’s boss, but beyond the hellcat motor that will have their buyers drooling, is it really that far ahead of the raptor in other areas. I’m not one that gets hung up on exhaust notes. I wouldn’t spend 100k on a raptor with a 750 hp v8, I don’t race and I don’t need that much power. I would like a hybrid v6 if that’s the direction they are headed. Just my .02

What are your takes on gen 2 depreciation? Think theyll drop now with the announcement?

No Scab announcement yet, but without one I think mine will hold value just fine. Depreciation might take a hit when Gen 3 first roll out, so if you plan on selling this year it might be wise to do it sooner rather than later. I’m not planning on doing something with my 2020 until 2026-2027, so I’m not concerned.

If you watch the video, TFL is pretty clear about the reliability of the information they're providing. The stated they have two sources but are readily admitting that it's not much more than a rumor at this point. They have made it clear that it's not information they got from Ford, and that Ford isn't really even talking to them right now. If someone wants to claim that's confirmation and 100% guaranteed to happen, then it's on them, not TFL.

On the other hand, media outlets in general seem to have much lower standards these days, but that's a different topic.

Unfortunately no, and by the time it got to me who knows how accurate it would be.

Until I see an official "V8 IS ON THE WAY!" from Ford I would remain skeptical.

I do remember back in 2008 (ish?) they were working there and said a new truck was coming "with more suspension but not lifted".

Any guess on what the weight penalty would be for the hybrid package? That is not going to be a lightweight package.

After people buy the TRX and realize it's not good at anything other than going fast in a straight line on pavement, The Raptor will still be King of the offroad trucks. I would think that given 2 engine choices and putting a heavier V8 in the Raptor means that Ford will have to have to have 2 different suspension setups if they want both trucks to handle the same.
On pavement, the TRX will slay the Gen2 Raptor, but that's not what the Raptor is for.
I had an SRT Challenger and a few Corvettes. The SRT would blow the doors off the Vettes in a straight line, but put any turns in the road, and the Challenger was a Dog.
Now, I'm completely happy with my GT350.
