I've had mine off on both top and mid perch and it is noticeably smoother in my opinion both on and off road. No ill effects so far and don't really expect any to be honest.
Not sure there is a thread but it is only 6 nuts and that sucker is off. It can't be any more self explanatory honestly. Just crawl under and look at it. Just droop the front suspension out to get the tension off of the sway bar and take that baby off.
I took mine off and reinstalled it later without jacking the truck. Just took the ends off and then the bar. It wasn't tough. Just know that you need two wrenches for the ends that hook to the LCA. The stud spins too.
