Just changed em , super easy. The rear drivers side was in tight and was darker than all the rest. Truck does seem smoother and crisp. Its raining and it wants to spin so easy.

So I just read this "weep hole" thing. Let me see if I understand. You drill a 1/16th hole in the charge side?! You create your own boost leak... of metered air?! The argument is that you make more boost than this hole can bleed off? I must be misunderstanding.

Sorry. I should have just typed "subscribed."

Let me fix it.

Has anyone installed these plugs and had bad results?
Has anyone installed them without a tune that wasn't really having a problem, and seen a huge performance gain?

I was making a joke about the weep hole. After I ordered my 2018 and before I took delivery of my truck, the forum had a “Squachy” goofball that posted weep hole threads every other day.

Having the proper heat range is important for plugs, but you aren’t going to shave .4 seconds off your 0-60 time with a simple plug change. If the factory plugs were way too hot, plenty of people would be having engine problems within 10K miles.

I’m old school (70s 2 stroke bikes) and know how to read a plug. I have installed and pitched plenty of plugs within a few miles based on jetting tweaks alone in motorcycles. I realize the computer controlling timing curves and the fuel mix changes things in my world, but the Ford engineers are not going to spec out a “way too hot” plug for our trucks with the factory tune.

I have always felt that reading the plugs will tell the story of a proper tune and are not performance mods… but what the **** do I know in this day and age.

If you shoot a new tune to a Gen2 Raptor maybe going to colder plug will be the right thing to do in order to handle the tweaks to timing and the fuel ratio.

That said...Please don't drill a weep hole!!!

Yeah I am having a hard time with this being the miracle mod. I have no intention of drilling a "weep hole," but I wanted to figure out what it was when I read your post. I also wanted to subscribe to this thread, so I thought I would comment about the weep hole. My bad. I forgot that this forum bites when you make a mistake.

One person has said it took .4 off the 0-60. The rest said it runs better , smoother , no stuttering and felt a bit quicker. I’d say that’s what the majority are talking about and looking for. Fords priority is often emmsions. A hot plug with help with that.

Sorry...No mistake on your part. There was a lot of ******** last year about taking a drill to a wonderfully engineered machine, and it was all started my someone that apparently never owned a Raptor from what I can tell. I now realize that I shouldn't have even brought that up in a joke concerning switching to a colder miracle plug.

i had ordered these plugs a while ago, but I let them sit on the shelf.

Today I decided, since I'm about to head out on a road trip, and I had some really weird misfire messages pop up in the past week, that I'd at very least pull the factory plugs and take a gander.

I recently trimmed my exhaust pipes to a turn down over the axle in preparation for the bumper I ordered for the rear. Since I trimmed, I've also been getting backfiring.

Based on the way the plugs look...

My truck is apparently subject to some carbon fouling and looks to be a little too hot/lean from what the plugs say. They certainly weren't that nice cardboard brown. could also be a little bit of oil fouling.

I have had ticking and other noises on start up.

I decided to take the 15 mins and swap the plugs.

So far in the couple mile test drive afterward, no ticking, smoother throttle response, and the motor seems to rev a little freer too.

We'll see how she fares on the drive this weekend, but so far I'm rather pleased.

For reference, my truck is an 18, has about 7500 miles on it and I've been mostly running the MPT 93 PRX for the past 3500 miles.

This is the key. Ford is held to emissions as a priority. We as enthusiasts aren't. Half a second acceleration change is easy to imagine if the ECU is pulling timing or spark when it senses knock, especially on a tuned motor
