I broke my Raptor not long after I got it. It was soft sand and I was accelerating pretty hard out of a low speed turn when KAPOW! A rear axle snapped. (I was in 2WD locked)
I might have hit a buried rock or something and, much like slamming into a ledge or taking a jump too fast and bending a frame, the shock load on an axle when a spinning wheel grabs traction can be astronomical.
I did not expect Ford to cover the repairs. Not that I felt I was "abusing" the truck, but **** like this happens when you play hard! Even a trophy truck can snap an axle if a spinning wheel suddenly grabs traction.
To my surprise, Ford did cover the repairs under warranty. (I believe it was because of a possible small run of bad axles.) They stepped up and did the right thing but Ford could have denied coverage.
Then we have BigJ who knocked a sensor off on a trip we took... not warranty. Stuff like that does happen off roading and it doesn't mean the vehicle is flawed. I've personally driven thousands of miles over the same (and worse) rocky roads and my sensors never got hit. Nor have I heard it happening to someone else.
It sounds like these guys were having fun and most of them hit some obstacles at ridiculously high speeds. Parts broke. In my book, that's to be expected.
I believe AII took the same run with a stock Raptor or two... bent frames? Nope. I think the only real damage was to a (non-Raptor) that ran off the road and rolled.
