I saw this F150 a week ago at my Ford Dealership being repaired. Note, new frame on the right, cab in the foreground with the engine on a stand. I could not believe this was not a totaled truck. They told me that insurance companies are now paying up to 80% of the vehicles value to fix them these days.

Ironically spoke to my insurance company today regarding accidents, totaling, depreciated value, etc...

Not sure what the differences are between State Farm vs. State law (MD), but I was told:
- repair must be assessed at over 70% of the value of the vehicle to be considered a total loss

- The depreciated value amount is not added to the repair amount when considering the total loss value...two separate calculations. I was also told the burden of proof regarding the deprecated value amount is up to the owner to prove.

I didn't get into the nuances of some of the answers, but what it boils down to in the case of these brand new models is that insurance companies are not going to want to total them. It also means hiring a lawyer is probably a smart move even though there's obviously a cost associated with that too.

So I had guy turn left right in front of me and I plowed into him wrecking my Gen 1's front end, bending front frame members, driver air bag deployed, etc... I told his insurance (he was cited) that if they totaled it and payed me $50k (mint loaded Gen 1 with under 25k miles) they could sell it on salvage title for $25k-$30k all day meaning they would be out $20k+/-. They wouldn't hear of it and insisted on repairing it, and well after $24k in parts and labor, $3k in rental car and $8k in diminished value which adds up to $35k they paid, how did they do?

My advise to you is push hard on diminished value, everyone told me I wouldn't get it or if I did it would be peanuts. I fought hard but worth in the end.

Driving down the highway in Richmond, VA. Went to pass a vehicle in the right lane and the ******* swerves into the right lane and applies his brake. I swerve to the right and into the ditch at 80+mph. Truck is toast but my six year old daughter was okay. She was wondering why we were going Off-Roading on the highway. Her only injury was a cut on her neck from the seat belt. I escaped with some bruises and soreness. All the seat belt airbags and side airbags blew. Truck didn't flip. Right Rear axle is broken. Right Front is torn up. We were able to walk away. She did well to protect us. Adjuster will be by on Wednesday. I hope she is totaled. I priced out the parts I knew that were bad from the dealer and I was only at $14000. With an equal amount of paint and labor it still would be enough to total it. Based on Virginia's Total Loss Guide there needs to be $50000 worth of damage. Anybody have advice on this. Thanks in advance.

Glad to see you and your daughter came out well. I have to agree with others, not a chance it's totaled. You would need $35k+ for that conversation to start and you aren't close.

That being said... the irony here is that I joined this forum today because someone cut in front of me and my vehicle is likely totaled. Been lurking for awhile but it looks like the time will be here for me to start looking.

From my accident today. Walked away without a scratch.

I'm glad the engineers at Ford didn't skimp or skip classes! Take a look at your little girl and re-asses your priorities....
That little girl with the cut on her neck could have been SERIOUSLY hurt or killed. Try going to your local dealership and buy a new daughter....
Life is too short; too precious; kiss her good night. Check on her while she's sleeping. Make her breakfast. Take her to school. Pick her up from school....Read her a book...

Not that I think the OP was referring to the truck as his top priority... but man... This is the truth.

Yeah, Was a great SUV. Really put the sport in to SUV. BMW has the suspension thing down on the M models. Believe it or not, it actually lapped faster than the M3 on some track reviews.

Can't wait to get in to a Raptor and start modding it up.

Awesome! how do you like the change? Obviously two completely different vehicles.

I'm not far from you. In Maryland, South of national harbor in Calvert County.
