the ram runner idea is sooo stupid, which is why I'm not surprised at how popular it is among Dodge weenies. "why buy a 55k gt500 when you can purchase a 35k shitheap challenger, then spend 40k on aftermarket parts and totally blow it away..."

I'm still trying to find the angle here - the only thing that even remotely resembles logic is that you can start with a base model truck (no frills) and have a Raptor 'competitor' for less money. If you are on a budget and like the 'will it start today' dodge roulette, then I guess it's a great idea. These ********* still think they have hemi's so you can't educate them.

the only way the comparison is fair is if they not only take into account money spent, but also ALL of the features of each truck. The Raptor is more than fox shocks, as such it should be measured by more than 11.5 inches of travel. Does the Dodge have 411hp/434tq, heated and cooled seats, locking rear, torsen front, hill descent control, off road mode, built in accesory lighting, blah blah blah... dollar for dollar the Raptor has NO equal.

2011 Mopar Ram Runner Road Test - Review - Car and Driver

Unfortunately, our test was cut short by a transfer-case failure incurred while powering out of deep sand. We suspect the truck’s past beatings might have had something to do with this and that what may be considered “excessive abuse” could affect warranty repairs. The failure highlighted two things: the brutality of off-roading and the fact that the Ram Runner conversion does not touch all of the base truck’s key components.

don't forget, we have 3/4 ton axles also... yet another thing that is better on the Raptor.

you don't get in the ring with Ali just because you think you can box...

I understand everyone getting their ******* in a bunch because it's not a "fair" test but what is with a Raptor? There is no truck made from the factory like the Raptor so the guys at pickuptruck.com did the next best thing. I give them credit for.doing it and I look forward to seeing what they say. I have personally found out that a stock Raptor isn't up to ***** for me and I would put about $10,000 into it. So if I get a truck for $48-50,000 I'm looking at close to $60,000 total. I think it would be cool to see a test between the RAM and some Raptors with some goodies.from RPG and Outlaw. I may even pay to see that :peace:

the 40 k i found was right from dodges web site. i used the 1500 sport because i figured thats where i would start instead of the more expensive power wagon or the big horn.

The Power Wagon is straight axle in front.

No we don't. We have the same 9.75 rear end Ford has been using for years. I had the same rear end in my Lightning and my parents' EB F-150 has it also. The bigger trucks get a 10.25 rear end.

That article points one huge difference at the end of the Ram Runner is still largely just another Ram 1500. Where there are several big difference between the Raptor and F-150 in some of the main components.

As far as I can figure they are only doing this test is because any other factory truck that fits this bill won't hold up to the raptor. So they are getting the only truck available that will hang or beat the raptor that you can get from a big car company. It's still legit because they are mopar parts. No differant the all the parts from FRPP and making a street legal Cobra Jet and eating every thing On the street that Dodge, Chevy or Toyota makes.

You just brought up another good point. The Ram Runner isn't street legal. I believe there is a kit for it but I think its another 5K for all the lights and wiring.

Any compatition that is out there will make the trucks better in the long run, and that's what counts. Hate it like it this sort of thing will make our nich of the truck segment better and more popular.
