Dear Jalopnik,

Thanks for ruining the reputation of the Ford Raptor with your quick to judge reporting, which is typical of your autoblog.

the best thing to do if they want to compare trucks is to take the cost of the ram, all the parts, labor, and any other cost of the truck then add up the total of the RR and compare it to the cost of the Raptor, the money that is over the cost of the raptor should then be applied to the raptor for after market parts. this way you can actually compare what the trucks can do for the money spent on them. heres the break down.

DODGE RAM RUNNER plus MSRP of Kit compenents

1, cost of truck fully loaded = 40,595
2, P155662 = 13,270
3, p5155663 = 1,250
4, p5155664 = 1,010
5, p5155665 = 1,020
6, p5155666 = 1,350
7, 82211065ad = 978
8, p5155280 = 1,135

Grand Total of parts and truck with out cost of labor is 60, 604 add min of 8000 for Labor and you have 68,604

Ford raptor fully loaded 54,578

now take the 14,026 and apply it to the raptor and that will be a good comparision.

Sorry, but the closest I can get to a comparatively equipped Dodge to the top of the line Raptor is about 44.5K …
And that is only getting close …

the 40 k i found was right from dodges web site. i used the 1500 sport because i figured thats where i would start instead of the more expensive power wagon or the big horn.

im not knocking the dodge i think its a cool idea but to compare a truck that can not be bought off the show room floor as is and one that must be put to geather with parts you must get over the counter from dodge to make it comparable is a waste of the readers time.

:birgits_tiredcoffee I believe Avmech and his estimates are correct.

Below is a link to, IMHO, a fair review of the Ram Runner done by Car & Driver Mag. . . As it states in the intro of the article review. . . it is not a production car. . . :005:

"Unlike the Raptor ($42,930 base price), the Ram Runner is a not a regular-production vehicle. Instead, it is a collection of  bits available from Mopar " ~Car & Driver

2011 Mopar Ram Runner Road Test - Review - Car and Driver

:ROFLJest: So my question is, what numbers are you using to come up with a Ram Runner build, price including labor, of 44.5k??? Just curious...

Avmech, you're forgetting wheels/tires/fender flare paint too. Add another couple grand onto that price. Even the C&D article said it was $61k to build one. It's got better suspension because of that extra price. It's already running 3.0's and lots of other goodies.

This isn't really a fair comparison, after reading that article and remembering all the extra stuff that comes with a RR, it's really in the same ball park as taking a stock raptor and comparing it to say, SPRSNK's, RPG's Stage 4+ Raptor, or Outlaw's LT Prerunner.

The real one to thank is the crybaby on the Z'forum who started all this crap and his fellow forum moderators for using the Z to push their agenda...The Raptor is a GREAT truck but a STOCK truck, it is NOT a trophy truck. There is no vehicle made that you cannot push past its or YOUR limits and find what is the first component to fail. There are many great, useful mods available for the Raptor to allow it to go even faster and harder off-road...but if you keep pushing it harder and faster something else WILL fail, just like on a TROPHY truck. It just ****** me off when someone can't man up and admit THEY F'ed up and look for someone else to blame for their F'up... "End of rant"

Come on now... It is never the drivers fault... It is the navigator, the truck, the other drivers, the spectators, the sun, the moon... NEVER the driver!
