There’s several threads on here bout the lug nut issue. Consensus is the stock nuts are crap. Gorilla’s come in 2nd as a few members had problems with them (2 experienced cracks in the Gorillas), and McGards came in 1st with no issues reported. Summit Racing historically had the best prices for McGards but I haven’t checked recently.

From OP picture you can tell those are the capped lug nuts which is a common Ford problem. For everyone else, I would check to see if you have these Crome looking capped lug nuts before replacing your current ones. My buddy has a 2018 F-150 that we learned the hard way has these 2 piece lug nuts and they swelled like hell.

My 2018 had capped lug nuts. If they switched, it must have been recently.

Just priced at Summit. 5x 4-pack of McGard lugnuts and 1 set of locking nuts came out to $142 w/shipping. Gorillas came out a little more than half: Lug Nuts, Conical Seat, 14mm x 1.50 RH, Closed End, Locking, Black Chrome Steel, Set of 24 w/WA tax and shipping was $77.05. Seems a pretty steep premium for the McGards, but I guess I can pay now...or pay later. Well, OK, I ordered BOTH, going to eyeball each one closely when they arrive. If I don't see a noticeable benefit to the McG's or note a definite inferior aspect to the Gorilla's, I may just go with them. OR not. Will be a game-day decision once they arrive. And I know that 'quality' of the material may not be visible at all. I'll weigh them, maybe test-thread each depending on packaging and go with whichever seems the highest quality.

Ok, You owe me $239 bucks! Lol! I was up late at night looking at this thread and followed that link you posted. What a frickin nightmare with those Gorilla lugs. Anyhow, I bought a full set of Mcgard's today to replace my Gorilla's. Don't want to have to deal with that in the middle of the desert. Your fault


haha...I just sprang for them both. Feel confident that if they're not over-torqued it shouldn't be an issue, but I want to eyeball each one side by side. Keep one set and return the other ones.

Yeah, can you believe he spent over 16 hours drilling out studs? Probably closer to 20+ with the early trial/experimenting he did. Guess I'll be doing all my own rotations now to ensure proper torquing. Pretty steep premium to pay though (for the McG's).

I’ve held off on new lugnuts since the price has increased here 30%.

In my research, I believe that the Mcgards bulge seat have a similar amount of seat/land as oem.

Anybody ever find a side by side comparison of oem/McGard/Gorilla?
