I think the entire basis for this original post is off.

Love the scare tactic. It ranks up there with "better wear a mask indoors when alone before you catch the covid".

Lug nuts are like rifle magazines. They are meant to be somewhat disposable.

What this translates to for automobile drivers is:

1. Yes during regular use they may become a little chewed up.
2. Yes you may have to replace one here and there and eventually replace them all.
3. Yes this will vary depending on several external factors. (times they have been taken off, moisture, road salt, and whatever else that may cause wear and tear)

did a brake job with my neighbor on his truck, it was at 75k and there were a couple lug nuts that needed to be changed out (was not a ford)

So in closing I do NOT think that means run out and put all brand new lug nuts on your brand new truck.

What it does mean is understand that they are a part, and parts get worn. So it would not hurt too much to have them changed out down the road and it may be smart to keep some at home for when that time comes.

My 2 cents
TLDR whole thread.
It depends on the size of the socket used. YMMV
Lots of dealers use a slightly oversized socket. (lazy mechanics)
Easier to use but, can warp the two metal lug on our Raptors.
My dealer had to replace the nuts when TPMS was added to the spare and mounted. (all tires not rotated)
The shop that normally rotates my tires has never caused a problem.

Just changed mine to the black mcguard ones. Got them from summit for under $120 shipped to commiefornia.

My old 2017 f150 with 70k miles on it had the nuts bulging badly and this was cheap insurance not to run into that issue again when i work on the truck.

It seems to me with all the recurring problems with our OEM lug nuts, there would be some type of recall from Ford. If not that, it wouldn’t surprise me if there was a class action lawsuit filed, unless it’s not a problem across the board with all F-150s.

I just ordered all new Mcgard lug nuts and I only have 3,300 miles on my 2020.

It appears as if somehow moisture is infiltrating into these OEM lug nuts causing them to swell. I would have thought Ford would be looking to their lug nut suppler to RE-engineer the lug nuts. Just my two cents.

Not "cheap" but not as "expensive" as some. Was one of the old school pneumatic only guys. This has been one of the best bang for the buck products I've ever owned and have been turning wrenches both professionally and privately as long or longer than many have been alive. 650 lb ft of lithium powered torque coming off. Actually got it in a deal with the impact drill. Never looked back. Its swapped axles among many other things trail side.

Ha, I don’t entirely disagree with your response, which is why is also added the caveat, “unless it’s not a problem across the board with all F-150s.” In my original post...

no worries. but you can cut to that.

It's not.

I'd also place a nice wager that the same exact lug nuts are used on more than just the F150
