NEED HELP: NY registration problems

Mouldman1, go to the DMV located on Broadway bet 33rd and 34th St in Manhattan. That is where I went. You need to tell the rep at the counter that your vehicle is for recreation, you do not have a business, the truck has four doors with seats for 5. The rep will then recategorized your truck as "suburban". Your registration will show as suburban and not as a pickup truck and then you will be issued non-commercial plates. I know what you are going thru. I too purchased my truck in Connecticut and was issued commercial plates from the get go. I then went to a smaller DMV office in Garden City, LI and had a rep from hell who recited the same law and just said NO. Good luck.

New York - Commercial Plates?

Hi guys, I put a deposit down on a Raptor over the weekend. The salesman is telling me he has to put commercial plates on the vehicle. Is that true? Will I be able to get rid of these things after the fact?

its not a problem. When you go to get passenger plates the DMV form requires you to say you have a camper top attached to it. Best bet is to fill out form and say you do and go to a smaller local DMV, they won't check.

Would I be able to do this at the DMV near my office in Manhattan? I got my license renewed there last year. If they can do the plate swap at this location it seems very unlikely that they would expect to be able to inspect the vehicle and if they ask I can just tell them I take the train in and it's very hard for me to get time off work to go to the DMV by my house, which is true.

Thoughts?
