So what I'm reading is that I need 2 thumb drives over 2GB to make this happen. is there any other way I can make this happen, any other storage device between computer and truck? do external hard drives work?

Yeah, I have formatted the drive several times. Tried to download it on my home machine last night, I just left it running while I went to bed. The machine went to sleep because there was no activity. Tried at work yesterday and today. It gets to 5%, and stalls out. I have read that there are stalls at 5% and 38% reported by others on the net. How long they are though, no one seems to know. Looking at time stamps, I'm about 25 minutes here on 5% so far on this try. I'll use my other machine at home tonight and see if I can get it. That one is set to not go to sleep. I hate this. I work in IT too. shame...
Someone should put this out on a torrent. It would download a lot faster. All kinds of Ford forums are lighting up with the update info.

Sunday night at 10pm Pacific time it took me 40 minutes to download and only 25 min to install. I used a 2GB raw size USB stick, and I just deleted the stuff on it, didn't reformat. It worked so the download is something less than 2GB.

It reformats the drive and makes sure it's a bootable drive so MFT can use it as far as I can tell.
That is what I saw when it took 5 minutes on one of the steps, the light was still blinking and nothing being downloaded.

It took 8 to 10 minutes to do but that was Sunday morning.
I also have a very fast computer Dell's XPS 8500 Desktop, and a very fast internet connection 50 mbps down and 15 mbps up.
And USB 3.0 ports to boot. LOL
And I used a 32 GB class one micro SD card in a 3.0 USB adaptor.

Ford's website is probable slow now with everyone doing the update. LOL

I see no reason why it wouldn't,
but maybe you might have to delete all software that's on the external drive, like backup software and any auto run programs that might be on there.

Well, I was able to get it downloaded. I booted up my old PC and my Mac Mini. Logged into the sync site on both and ran the downloads head to head on them both. The old Mac Mini running Snow Leopard downloaded in about 10 minutes with no problems. the Win 7 machine was slightly longer, I had to install Java 7-25 on that one. So now I have two copies. Started my machine at work copying too before I left for the day. I'll see if that one finished when I get to work tomorrow.
Now I just need to run the install. Wish me luck. I'll do the Master Reset before running the upgrade.

And don't forget to remove the pairing on the or any mobile phone for Sync before starting!!!

This will help ensure that the Phone Book and Contacts is properly reinstalled.

My download took just a couple of mins, though I have a fast connection. The upgrade was smooth. Tip: once it starts be sure to sit there with it until the screen that makes you confirm that you really want to proceed pops up. I made the mistake of going inside for dinner and came back 30 mins later to discover it was waiting for my input.

Updated mine in about 25 minutes. The Raptor flash alone is worth it. My 3rd gen ipod touch with 40 gigs of music is very fast now when using voice command.
