That was $1100 to drain a 6R80, drop the pan & valve body, swap in a "new" leadframe, button it all up, plug in their computer, & push the "Fix it so it Won't Explode" button?
That's what I paid. When I looked up the repair on you tube, it is absolutely something I could do myself if I had a lift and except for the flushing part. The dealership I go to for repairs has my full trust. Been going there for 27 yrs and never had a problem

That's reasonable, since it's three gallons of tranny juice @$7/qt... and they warranty their work. Did they recommend a different cooler than oem?
Did mine myself for about $300. Well.....@Gumby did 99% of it.

No mention of a different cooler. But then again I never looked into one cause I never had temperature problems with mine

It actually is a slow problem. The problem is that the older Lead frame gets small metal particles that get on the contacts and causes them to short out. I have always kept up with the recommended tranny flush and mine crapped out at 190,000 miles. Big yellow wrench came up on the screen and it dropped down to 3rd gear and I limped it home. The new molded lead frame has a basically a filter on top of the contacts to prevent them from shorting out. Another type has a magnet that traps the debri

Good to know,and funny,since i was scheduling Tranny and cooling service,plugs,wires,brakes and shocks with my trusted mechanic next month,even though most is not scheduled with only 75k on it..except shocks...

Did mine myself for about $300. Well.....@Gumby did 99% of it. (plus another couple bucks for a new transfer seal, & bulkhead connector that my personal hero Fordtechmakuloco recommends).

I had them do the new seal and connector also. Saw information they can be a problem down the road so might as well replace since ya already in there

Excellent info,but I'm assuming us guys with a Roush or Whipple would still need to re-tune after replacing the leadfoot and parts...Really dont want to deal with our local Ford dealership,so trying to see if I should just get my mechanic to do a Trans flush......or open it up,bite the bullet and let him do a leadfoot replacement....I'm sure he will know,but like to have some info when I bring truck in just in case.....they are great,been using for 20 years...but not like they work on a Supercharged Raptor every day..in fact,mine is only they have even seen..LOL!

I have a custom Eddy Current Dyno Tune in mine and this did not affect it
